If you your goal is to get your followers to click through to your website or online store, this is an essential metric. Wide exposure is great, but if it’s not leading anyone to your site, what good is it? A low CTR can indicate that you’re not targeting the right audience, or that your content isn’t enticing potential customers to want to find out more.

You can calculate your CTR by dividing the number of clicks by the number of views. On Instagram, this is relevant to your profile link, promotions, or swipe-up links you’ve added to Stories.

How do you know if your CTR is good? You want to aim for higher than average in your industry. Different industries have different average CTRs, so you’ll need to do a little research to determine the right goals for your brand.

There is a right way to approach direct sales and a few VERY wrong ways to approach direct sales.

DO NOTS OF DIRECT SALES
Fake friendships – Everyone has had the friend they haven’t talked to since second grade that all of the sudden hits them up to buy their new and incredible product. Don’t be that person. Yes, network marketing can include talking to your friends but don’t pressure them, don’t be salesy, and always keep it real.

Bait and switch invite a friend to lunch to “catch up”… but really talk about your products during the entire conversation. – You may think getting your friend in person will increase your likelihood of a sale. Which it probably will, but it also will probably ruin your friendship for life. If you really would have gone to lunch with them before selling your product, then cool, go to lunch! But, please don’t corner your friend and try to sell them your product the whole time.

Sacrifice friendships for a sale – Really think about it. Is it worth it to lose a friend just for a small sale?

DO’S OF DIRECT SALES
Leverage social media – I am serious when I say there is great power in social media and you can do it without spamming your friends. I make it a rule to only post about once a month on my personal pages. For me, I have found that that is an okay balance. The remainder of your posts should be on your accounts that are specifically for the product you are selling.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing is an experiment that examines two variables, A and B, of a website. In a more precise way, it refers to the act of comparing two varying elements against each other by showing it to different visitors at the same time to see the one that drives more conversion.

Besides, this process eliminates the doubts associated with website creation and optimization. Instead of judging based on your interests or what you feel is right, you can make data-backed decisions based on the test result.
A/B testing is used in different industries and has helped in making better marketing decisions. Several businesses have increased the number of their subscribers and average order value. They have improved their user experience, which resulted in more time spent on their website.

Taking the eCommerce industry as an example, Amazon is at the leading edge in conversion optimization because of its dedication to delivering a premium customer experience.
Booking, an example in the travel industry, created three versions of its landing page in 2017 and ran A/B tests for two weeks. This test resulted in a 25% increase in owner registration and a significant decrease in each registration cost.

1. Give a Huge Discount

This is the most traditional and by far the easiest Black Friday and Cyber Monday marketing strategy. There’s not too much to say about it except that you really want to make sure the discount is irresistible. 10% off isn’t going to cut it, especially when everyone else is going to be running such incredible deals at the same time. Create an offer with a huge discount and share the deals with your audience on social media!

2. 12 offers in 12 hours

A great way to promote and sell several of your products during Black Friday is to create something like a “one deal per hour” sale. You can’t realistically be online for a full 24 hours, but you might be able to do 12. You’ll just announce one new deal every hour on the hour… then watch your customers go nuts!

You can send the offers out via email, create a special WhatsApp or Telegram group, or even share it on social media. Just make sure that you spend some time creating cute graphics beforehand so your sales have the best chance of getting noticed!

3. Offer Gift Cards

Since the holiday season is approaching, you might want to use this opportunity to sell some gift cards. You don’t need to be a big business to offer those, and you don’t need to sell products. So why not go this route and create special gift cards or give people a deal if they buy multiple gift cards during Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

4. Give People Something for Free

Don’t get it wrong, we’re not saying you need to donate your products or services to people. No way! But, what you can do is give something for free when people make a purchase of a certain amount or buy a specific product. This is a great way to incentivize people to buy something that you want to sell more of and you don’t even necessarily need to offer a discount. All you have to do is just give them some kind of add-on or upgrade or free item when they make a purchase.

5. 4-Day Sale

Don’t feel like you have to be limited by Black Friday or Cyber Monday. If you want, you can start your deals on Black Friday and end them on Cyber Monday. You can have an extended sale or even announce different products and discounts each day. Make sure you include an authentic sense of urgency on your posts and create a lot of content during these days. People won’t remember if you don’t post.

Google has identified several 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 initiatives:

CONSUMER INSIGHT 1: More consumers are shopping online for items that they would usually buy in-store.

The accelerated rate of the e-commerce boom has forced traditional retail organizations to jump to the digital bandwagon. As consumers abandon their long-established buying habits, homebound customers have begun to try new opportunities to purchase their everyday necessities. Google noted that besides the apparent rise in online grocery shopping, 1 in 4 shoppers opted to go online to buy something that they would typically buy in-store.

To prepare for the holiday season, businesses need to prioritize on doubling down their omnichannel strategy. Since more consumers are now getting accustomed to buying things online, having a flexible and scalable e-commerce channel will make a big difference during this year’s holiday season.

CONSUMER INSIGHT 2: Shoppers expect new contactless operations whenever they try to make any type of purchase.

As government-imposed lockdown orders were implemented, Google reports that 53% of shoppers have started to try out new shopping services for the first time. Besides online grocery delivery, shoppers have formed the habit of trying out curbside pickups and even checking the items’ inventory before heading to the store.

The needs of consumers are also changing. With everyone staying at home and practicing social distancing, Google’s search data has shown that today’s consumers are looking for items that complement their at-home lifestyle. Businesses need to understand and be proactive enough to adjust their holiday strategies based on emerging consumer trends. Their products and services need to reflect the changing needs of their consumers.

CONSUMER INSIGHT 3: As consumer sentiment plummets, shoppers are inherently more conscious about “shopping for value.”

The widespread disruption of COVID-19 to the lives and livelihoods of families worldwide has resulted in a decrease in consumer sentiment. People are now looking for products that have more value for money. For companies to be successful in the 2020 holidays, they need to have a strong and targeted digital marketing strategy that will be able to reach the right consumers with the products that are most relevant to them, at the right price.

Consumer Trends to Expect for the 2020 Holidays
Businesses often come up with a holiday marketing strategy based on last year’s data and consumer insights. However, that kind of mindset will not be enough to prepare for the 2020 Holiday Season. To help your business prepare, here are the Top 5 consumer trends to expect for the 2020 holidays:

TREND 1: E-commerce

Expect a deluge of holiday shoppers to shop online, but some may also visit in-store for fulfillment centers.

As the global economy tries to recover, the holiday season is expected to have an end-of-year peak shopping season. Heightened physical and safety measures are expected to be still in full effect in-stores. With the increased e-commerce transactions during the lockdown, it is expected that consumers will likely patronize online shopping for their holiday shopping needs.

Companies need to be ready for the influx of holiday shoppers. Get started with your Black Friday shoppers by looking for deals that they are trying to snag. If your business has physical stores, offer considerable discounts for curbside pickup and BOPIS (buy online pick up in-store) arrangements to drive holiday foot traffic.

TREND 2: Loyalty

Drive loyalty to new online holiday shoppers.

It would be an excellent opportunity for brands to gain loyal holiday shoppers this tear. Consumers discovered new brands during the lockdown from various online shops, websites, and direct-to-consumer (DTF) businesses. If you want those consumers to come back for the holidays, then you must incentivize them in doing so.

As the holiday season draws near, create additional touchpoints with online shoppers that have visited you over the past few months by showing deals and discounts for the upcoming holidays.

You can also try to evolve the company’s video creatives with messaging that’s personalized to your target audience’s current situation, location, and context.

TREND 3: Applications

Mobile apps will influence the holiday shopper’s purchasing decision across the buyer’s journey.

The holiday season is a great time to build the brand’s consumer base on their mobile apps. Brands that market via mobile apps should focus on attracting new audiences and targeting the best potential long-term app users.

Get a head start by building your app’s user base as early as now to get ahead of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shoppers. This is also an excellent time to bring back users. Retarget and re-engage users who have abandoned the app and target the best possible local audience.

TREND 4: Lifestyle

Complement a consumers’ new at-home lifestyle with the holiday shopping gift guide.

Consumers who stayed at home have recently rediscovered the hobbies and activities that they wanted to make time for. The homebody economy created new consumer personas such as home exercisers, homeschoolers, remote workers, and home cooks. Brands need to appropriately target the lifestyles of these consumers by making sure that data-driven product insights are being used with your company’s holiday deals and campaigns.

TREND 5: Travel

Holiday travelers will keep their visits local or even virtually.

The comfort levels of consumers will rise as the months pass by. However, consumers are expected to take short trips within the area rather than take long-haul flights. Holiday get-togethers with the family are likely to be reduced, resulting in more virtual dinners and celebrations. Companies need to stay on the top-of-mind of holiday travelers and even those who opted to stay at home and make do with virtual celebrations.

💪True story:

My dad's friend Keith (names have been changed to protect personal information) is a medicine supplier and he wanted a contract to supply medicine to a Vietnamese hospital.

Keith knew that it would be difficult to convince the hospital principal to sign a contract with his company. He had sent couple sale staffs out to send their proposal but no luck.

In frustration, the staffs said: "Keith, I think you need to get on this deal, we could not reach her at all."

"Ok, get me an appointment with her" Keith said

On the day, he came to the the principal office only with his offer, no medicine samples, no importing permit, nothing. He greet: "Good morning Ly, how are you going? Long time no see since your last end of the year party. Remember me?"

"Ah Hello" The principal was stunned and she tried to remember who this guy is.

He continued "It's Keith, we had couple drinks together with John - East Saigon hospital principal were there as well. Such a great time"

Mrs principal could not remember Keith at all but she knows John for sure. She does not want to upset Keith since she could not remember him. She quickly replied: "Oh Keith, long time no see, what brings you here?"

"Last time you said you were looking into some medicine suppliers and asked me to send the proposal over.
My staffs try to deliver the proposal to you couple times but could not reach you.

I just happen to drive my wife here today for a check up so I reckon I can say Hi.

I gotta go soon, can I drop the proposal on your table? I have include some 20% off special for medicine 1 and 2, I know your hospital need them. It's just between us" Keith said with a big smile.

"That is great, thank you so much, we do need them" Ly face finally got to relax.

"I will be here on Friday to have my wife check up anyways, let catch up for coffee" Keith said on the way out.

"Absolutely, I will see you on Friday, thanks Keith"

And that's how Keith caught Ly's attention on his medicine deal.

The deal finally went through, that marked one of the biggest deals Keith settled in is career. He reveal his secret years later to Ly when their kids met by chance in Australia and got married.

So what do we learn from this case study?
