🌟 Happy World Physiotherapy Day! 🌟

Today we celebrate our incredible physiotherapists (pictured, just missing the wonderful Claire!) and the important role they play in helping people move, grow, and thrive. 💙

The theme for 2025 is “Healthy Ageing: Preventing Falls and Frailty.” Preventing falls isn’t just important for older adults, it’s something that can benefit people of all ages and abilities. Small changes can make a big difference in staying safe and strong:

✅ Follow your physio’s home exercise program to build strength and balance
✅ Keep walkways clear of clutter and trip hazards
✅ Use supportive footwear
✅ Make sure your home is well lit
✅ Take your time when standing up or moving around

By looking after our strength, mobility, and environment, we can all reduce the risk of falls and keep doing the things we love.

A big thank you to our wonderful physiotherapists at Down South Therapy. Your work makes such a difference every day. 🙌💙

🌟 Speech Pathology Week 2025 🌟

This year’s Speech Pathology Week theme, Impact Through Communication, celebrates the life-changing role communication plays in building meaningful lives.

Communication fosters connection — helping us form relationships and be part of our communities.

It grows confidence — allowing us to express ourselves proudly and be heard.

It drives inclusion — ensuring everyone has a voice, no matter how they communicate.

It inspires empowerment — supporting choice and independence.

It opens opportunity — unlocking learning, work, and life experiences.

It supports wellbeing — helping us share our needs, feelings, and dreams.

This week, we honour the power of communication and the incredible ways it enriches the lives of our clients, families, and community. 💙At DST, we’re also grateful to work alongside passionate and motivated speech pathologists, dedicated to empowering clients every day through communication.

❤️💛🖤 NAIDOC Week 2025: The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy 🖤💛❤️

This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week, a time to honour and celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, invites us to reflect on the enduring strength of our communities, the vision of our young leaders, and the legacy of our ancestors.

At Down South Therapy, we feel deeply honoured to walk alongside the individuals and families we support. Our team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Pathologists, and Psychologists is committed to creating a safe, respectful space where every person’s story, culture, and strengths are valued.

We recognise the importance of culturally responsive care and the powerful role we can play in lifting up and learning from the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices. Their strength, vision, and legacy inspire us every day.

At DST we respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land in which we work and serve the community, the Whadjuk, Binjareb and Wardandi people of the Noongar Boodja. We pay respect to Elders past and present, senior knowledge holders and those following in their footsteps, and extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples across Australia. We acknowledge the significant impact that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have had in medicine, healing and traditional therapy and continue to learn from their wisdom and practices.

♿🌻 July is Disability Pride Month and we’re proud to stand alongside our clients, families, and community in recognising that disability is not something to be ashamed of, it's a natural part of human diversity. It’s a time to honour the experiences, achievements, and voices of people with disability, and to challenge ableism in all its forms.

At Down South Therapy, our team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Pathologists and Psychologists are passionate about supporting people to live, move, communicate and thrive in their own way, on their own terms.

Disability Pride Month is a powerful reminder that disability is not something to be “fixed”, it’s something to be respected, embraced, and celebrated. Whether visible or invisible, permanent or temporary, disability deserves pride.

This month (and every month), we honour:
🧠 Diverse ways of thinking
🗣 Different ways of communicating
🧍‍♀️ Unique ways of moving
💛 And every individual’s right to belong.

Let’s continue to listen, learn and advocate for a more inclusive and accessible world.

Congratulations to Megan, our SPIRITED Person of the Month award winner for May! 🎉

“Thank you so much Megan for doing a screening today for a teacher who really needed our support with a student!! Your willingness to go above and beyond and the intuitive skills you must have applied to achieve engagement, are so appreciated!! The teacher had reported that the student had not been willing to follow an adult-led task even when initiated by those most connected to her in the school environment, so completing the screening was no small feat!”

At Down South Therapy, we stand with the MS community today and every day.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, often bringing uncertainty and challenges — especially around diagnosis. This year’s World MS Day theme, “My MS Diagnosis,” shines a light on the barriers to early diagnosis and the emotional journeys people face while seeking answers.

We’re honoured to support people living with MS across all stages of their journey. Whether it’s helping improve mobility, navigate fatigue, adapt to daily challenges, or maintain independence, our team is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each person’s needs.

This World MS Day, we’re adding our voice to the global call for earlier diagnosis, greater awareness, and a more connected, informed world for those impacted by MS. Everyone deserves timely answers, the right support, and to feel seen. 🧡
