Today is RU OK? Day — a reminder that a simple conversation can change a life.

Checking in on those around you doesn’t have to be hard, but it’s important to make sure you’re ready too.

Here are some tips:

❔ Before you ask - Check in with yourself:

- Are you feeling calm and ready to listen?
- Do you have the time and emotional space to support someone right now?
- Have support options ready - Check out the list of services available in the graphic below
👉 Top Tip: save to your phone for future reference

❔ How to Check In With Others:

- Pick the right moment: Find a quiet time when you both can talk privately.
- Ask genuinely: “How are you going?” and really listen to the answer.
- Listen without judgment: Let them share, and don’t rush to give advice.
- Encourage action: Suggest they reach out to their GP - they will know the best support options.
- Follow up: Check in again soon to show you care.

A small conversation can make a big difference. Any day can be an RU OK? Day. 💛

If you are breastfeeding a bub it can be tough, but you’re not alone! 💜

If you’re finding it challenging, our blog has some great tips to help you through.

• Remember, fed is best—do what works for you and your baby.
• Every mum’s journey is unique—don’t compare yourself to others.
• Ask for help when you need it, whether from a lactation consultant, friend, or family member.
• Take care of yourself: rest, hydrate, and nourish your body.

This year’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme is Little Footsteps, Big Future.

This theme honours the journeys our children take as they grow - each step guided by culture, community and connection to Country.

We invite you to join us in recognising the importance of nurturing children’s voices and dreams. Together, we can support a future where every child walks strong in their identity and is empowered to shape their own path.

South Coastal Health & Community Services is proud to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in our community via South Coastal Babbingur Mia's Child Health program. To find out more check out our website southcoastal.org.au/babbingur-mia/child-health/

Today we’re celebrating the power of friendship — especially the incredible bond that can be created with friends.

These friendships can be a lifeline. They offer emotional support, laughter, honest conversations, and a safe space to simply be yourself. Research shows that strong, healthy friendships between women can boost mental health, reduce stress, and help us navigate life's ups and downs together.

✨ What does a healthy friendship look like?

~It feels safe, not stressful
~You can be real without fear of judgment
~There’s mutual support — not competition
~Boundaries are respected
~You leave each other feeling uplifted, not drained

But not all friendships stay healthy over time. If a connection consistently leaves you feeling anxious, unheard, or undervalued — it may be time to reflect, reset boundaries, or gently let go.

💬 If you're struggling with friendship dynamics or feeling isolated, you're not alone. Support is available. Talk to someone you trust — or reach out to our team to discover how we can help. Your wellbeing matters.

Today, we pause to remember the Stolen Generations — Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, and culture.

At South Coastal, we acknowledge the deep and lasting impact of this practice, and we stand in solidarity with First Nations peoples. Our commitment is to listen, to learn, and to keep striving for a future that embraces truth-telling, reconciliation, and meaningful change.

On International Day of the Midwife we are excited to launch the Positive Birth Indigenous Program at Babbingur Mia.

Our Midwife has been trained as a Positive Birth Practitioner through Hypnobirthing Australia. We’re proud to offer Boodjari Yorgas a culturally strong and supportive space to learn, grow and prepare for childbirth.

The “hypno” part of hypnobirthing refers to a technique you will learn that helps let go of fears and release the good hormones that make birth more comfortable and enjoyable.

The program will give you knowledge, tools and support to help prepare for a positive and empowering birth, however your baby is born. You will also be given a booklet packed full of further resources to take home and refer back to.

Join us for an afternoon tea while we explore the evidence-based program. The program will run over 3 x 1.5hr sessions.

Call us, on 9550 0900, to register your interest or speak with our Midwife at your next appointment.
