When my kids were young, they were keen soccer players, and were fortunate to have an amazing coach. ⚽️

Studying leadership at the time, I was intrigued by the coach’s unique ability to achieve such great results with these young kids. After observing for some time, I came to see what it was. He made them feel that they mattered.

To every young kid he met, he got down to their level, looked them straight in the eye and said, ‘I’m so glad to see you here today’. I watched the kids almost burst with pride as they heard those words.

They mattered.

Someone noticed that they had turned up, and were glad they had.

I think as adults, we’re not too different.

We want to matter. Too often we see leaders comparing their people to their own idealistic view of what’s needed, and trying to change them, rather than truly valuing them as they are.

When this happens, people turn up feeling like they don’t matter, they can’t make a difference and are wasting their time, energy and talent. Not everyone aspires to be the CEO, but people universally want to matter - in life and in work.

So what can we do to show our teams that they matter?

We can start by focusing on strengths, showing people that what they do makes a difference, that what they offer is valued and appreciated, and by saying ‘I’m so glad you’re here’.

Try this with your team today. I’d love to hear about the changes you see as a result 🌸

Somehow I’ve made these muffins even easier - you don’t even need to mix the eggs! But it works 😁

Brush a muffin pan with melted butter and break an egg into each muffin ring. Add cherry tomatoes, diced mushrooms, small blocks of cheese, baby spinach and spices. Push these into the egg and bake in the oven for 30 minutes, or until cooked to desired softness.

Need an easy way to get more vegetables and fibre in your life? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Cut the leaves and stem off a small cauliflower and steam in a saucepan with 3cm of water and lid on, for 10 minutes or until soft.

Transfer cauli to a bowl and cut through with a small knife. Add butter, salt and pepper and enjoy on its own, as a side dish, or as a rice or pasta alternative. Can be stored in an airtight container or in the freezer 😋

A few people have mentioned they are missing my quick healthy meal ideas. As my focus is on creating flourishing leaders, our biological health is a significant contributor to that, so creating nourishing meals helps people be at their best! And the ability to create quick and healthy meals as an alternative to other ‘fast foods’ also helps us economically, socially and environmentally. So it’s important on many levels.

This is literally a five minute meal. (Faster than Ub**Eats)

Blood orange and fennel salad. Dice oranges and fennel bulb and dress with olive oil, salt and pepper and juice from the orange. Sprinkle with the fennel fronds (the feathery herb at the top of the fennel bulb). Add some boiled eggs for protein if you like.

Time: 5 minutes
Budget: $4
Feeds: 2 or more
Vitamins and minerals: C, A, K and folate as well as potassium, calcium, thiamine, calcium and iron. Good source of dietary fibre and antioxidants, monounsaturated fats

Did you know that there is a 90 minute Mental Health First Aid program designed specifically for leaders?

This program has been developed for employers and managers. It provides leaders with information about the behavioural and physical signs that often indicate when an employee is experiencing a mental health problem and approaches for supporting an employee with mental illness.

It provides participants with a comprehensive overview of what staff and employees learn in the full 2 day Mental Health First Aid training program.

Engaging Leaders participants also learn about how the workplace can contribute to mental health problems, the framework for improving mental health within workplaces and how Mental Health First Aid training can help.

Nourish2Flourish Coaching and Consulting holds accreditation from Mental Health First Aid Australia to deliver this program, and can deliver it anywhere in Australia.

The program is offered FREE to any organisation who also purchases one or more of the MHFA Workplace program (F2F or blended online) courses.

To find out more, or discuss availability to offer this program to leaders within your workplace, contact Tracy@nourish2flourish.net.au

People often ask me a range of diverse questions about coaching….

For example...’What is coaching?’ ‘How is coaching different to mentoring?’ ‘How could coaching help me?’ and ‘Why would I hire a coach?’

Over the next few weeks, I will be answering some of these questions and more. But to begin with, let’s start with ‘What is Coaching’....

The simplest and best comparison for leadership coaching comes from the sporting world. We know and accept that most outstanding sportspeople owe their success, at least in part, to a Coach. The sportsperson (coachee) comes to the coaching relationship with raw talent, passion, drive and commitment, and works with the coach to develop and hone their skills, learn to grow and develop, set goals, and achieve their potential! The Coaching is highly individual and focuses on improving performance in consideration of the coachee’s unique strengths. Coaches provide insights to enhance the coachee’s performance, approach or mindset which may be limiting their potential - insights that are not available to the coachee. Coaches use techniques to encourage learning (and even unlearning), and work alongside the coachee supporting continuous growth and improvement. Coachees are held accountable for delivering on their commitments and putting in the time, effort and dedication to achieve their goals. Coaching approaches performance from a biopsychosocial perspective, with consideration of the interplay between the mind, body and environment.

Leadership Coaching offers these insights and opportunities in a leadership context! Like sports coaching, leadership coaching is highly tailored, individualised development that is focused entirely on the leader, in their context, their time, and on the issues that are relevant for them!

Coaching is not just for those who are aiming for the pinnacle of their profession, industry or sport – for leaders, it is for anyone wishing to gain personal insight, leadership skills, professional achievement, and to be supported to be their best!
