Have you met our Urogynaecologist & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgeon, Dr Jerome Melon?

He’s just returned from Madagascar, where he worked alongside the incredible team at Freedom From Fistula, providing life-changing surgery to women and girls suffering from obstetric fistula.

Fistula is a devastating childbirth injury that leaves women incontinent and often outcast from their families and communities. While it’s rare in wealthier countries, millions of women in Africa are still living with it today.

We feel incredibly lucky to have Dr Melon as part of the Wahini Health family.

🌸 Hormone Health Education 🌸

Your hormones are powerful messengers that affect almost every part of your health—energy levels, mood, sleep, weight and even skin.

When they’re in balance, your body feels its best. But when things are off, your body talks—and it’s important to listen.

Here are some common signs of hormonal imbalance that women might experience:

🩸 Irregular or missed periods
😴 Fatigue and low energy levels
🌪️ Mood swings, anxiety or depression
🥵 Hot flushes or night sweats
🛌 Sleep disturbances
📉 Weight changes (unexplained gain or loss)
😔 Low libido or vaginal dryness
🍬 Increased sugar cravings

When should you seek help?

If you’re noticing these symptoms consistently, it’s time to have a chat with your healthcare provider. Hormonal imbalances can happen due to things such as stress, diet, menopause, thyroid issues or conditions like PCOS.

The good news? Support is available! 💪

Tips to Support Your Hormone Health:

1️⃣ Eat a balanced diet: Incorporate whole foods, healthy fats and lean protein.
2️⃣ Move your body: Exercise helps regulate hormones and reduce stress.
3️⃣ Prioritise rest: Quality sleep is key to hormone balance.
4️⃣ Manage stress: Mindfulness, meditation, or breathing exercises can help.
5️⃣ Stay hydrated: Proper hydration supports your body’s natural processes.

Your hormones impact so much more than just your cycle—they’re the key to feeling energised, calm and in tune with your body. 🌿 Don’t ignore the signs and know you’re not alone.

Reach out to a trusted health professional for guidance—you deserve to feel your best. 💗

National Condom Day x Valentine’s Day ❤️💋

February 14th isn’t just for love—it’s also a reminder to prioritise your sexual health. National Condom Day is all about celebrating safer, consensual and pleasurable relationships while breaking the stigma around protection.

💡 Fun Fact: Condoms are one of the oldest forms of contraception—used long before electricity, and even before we knew about germs! From ancient Egyptian linen to Roman goat intestines (yikes 😳), we’ve come a long way. Thankfully, today’s condoms are latex (or polyurethane for allergies), and come in different sizes, textures, and even fun flavours.

🎉 Why condoms?
✔️ Prevent pregnancy & STIs
✔️ Boost confidence & peace of mind
✔️ Add fun & variety to intimacy

So whether you're celebrating love, self-love, or just love a good reason to talk about safer sex—this Valentine’s Day, wrap it before you tap it! 😉💜

⏳ When does heart disease risk increase for women?
While it can occur at any age, risk significantly increases around menopause due to a drop in oestrogen, which normally helps keep blood vessels flexible.

🚨 Heart disease claims twice as many lives as breast cancer. Yet, many women don’t realise it’s one of their leading causes of death.

💔 Why is heart disease less recognised in women?
🔸 Symptoms appear later and can be vaguer than in men.
🔸 Some diagnostic tests are less accurate for women.
🔸 Women are less likely to seek help quickly.
🔸 Some health professionals are less likely to check for heart disease in women.

💡 Did you know? 40% of heart attacks in women are fatal, and many occur without warning. Unlike men, who typically experience chest pain, women may also have:
⚠️ Back, neck, or jaw pain
⚠️ A burning sensation in the chest (like heartburn)
⚠️ Nausea, dizziness, vomiting
⚠️ Fatigue & shortness of breath
⚠️ Sweating & lightheadedness

✅ Take control of your heart health!

Women over 45 should have regular Heart Health Checks.

If you’ve had children, discuss your obstetric history with your GP—it can provide clues about your cardiovascular risk.

If you experience ANY of these symptoms, seek urgent medical attention. Call 000 immediately.

Your period is your body’s report card! 🩸 Irregular cycles, painful cramps, or heavy bleeding could signal underlying issues like PCOS or endometriosis. Don’t ignore the signs—listen to your body and seek advice from your healthcare provider. 🌸
