Shalom House is Leading the way in Australia in “Rehabilitation, Reintegration & Re-Socialisation”.

The West Australian Shalom Group is a not for profit charitable organization which has as its main function, the oversight of Shalom House. Shalom House is a residential rehabilitations centre for men, women & families located in the Swan Valley of WA, specializing in the treatment of drug and alcohol related ailments as well as other life-controlling problems. It was founded in 2012 by Peter Lyndon James, who had spent many years in and out of Children's Homes, Institutions and prisons for crimes which were the result of his drug addiction. It is built on the belief that every person can break free from addiction and that addiction is not a consequence of choice, but recovery is. Its aim is to restore to full functionality in the lives of men, women & families who choose the recovery option. As well as residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation, the West Australian Shalom Group has other community outreach services available for residents within the program in the Perth Metropolitan region. These have been structured to meet the needs of men, women & families in our community where traditionally those needs have been downplayed or ignored by society. They provide a safe and confidential environment for men, women & families to be able to speak about their life experiences and the personal battles they face without fear of criticism, and to get the emotional support that comes from finding that many others share the same battles. In sharing their experiences and finding solutions to the problems through the sharing, lives are changed, marriages restored, and people can rise up into their full potential.

THE GIRLS ARE INCREDIBLE

We’ve come to a new season at The Linen Shed. Also in our individual recovery journey, we are learning more about Shalom culture here we are taught how to have self compassion and also compassion for others. This helps us to have enough respect and compassion for self to be able to speak up whilst communicating with words in a loving and respectful manner.

Out on the donations truck this week, we’ve learned so much about patience, I’ve thought to find myself as being a patient person. However this week has shown me Gods patience and how I can learn more about his patience and his other spiritual principles like love, forgiveness and steadfastness.

Being able to be in an uncomfortable situation and sitting in the uncomfortable without the use of drugs or alcohol, brings me gratitude and joy at the end of the day.

There is so much joy in meeting different clients, many of the ladies before coming into Shalom were antisocial, isolated and scared of the public, now since putting the culture into practice the ladies on the truck serve with integrity and gratitude.

Our cups are overflowing when clients express their gratitude to us and let us know how proud of us they are.

It’s so good to be part of a team that has good time management, integrity and are productive community members representing Shalom!

HELP LOOKING FOR A NEW HOME - WAREHOUSE OR.?

Shalom House is looking for a new home for our Family nights and Monday staff/resident meetings.

The rents on where we have been using have gone through the roof and we can no longer afford the premises. We have had to stop alot of the activities we were doing such as Couples Counselling, Mens Shed, our Monday teaching sessios with the residents and now our Monday staff & resident meetings.

If you know of a large wearhouse or building we could rent or hire please drop me an email.

SHALOM METAL SHOP - WE DO ANYTHING METAL

The Shalom House Metal Shop has again been full throttle starting and finishing projects as well as keeping more, on the go, all at the one time.

Another large sliding gate has been finished and delivered. Onto the next one that has a sloping angle to really test our guys.

Ongoing work with trailer modifications to accommodate a ride on lawnmower.
A huge semi-trailer pulled up in need of emergency repairs on its trailer hitch.

We have also completed some work in house for mechanics workshop tools

The variety of work keeps every day fun and exciting. “No two days are ever the same and I come home happy knowing I’ve worked on something new and un expected”, one team member said.

CAFE - GROW THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH

At the cafe, we've just wrapped up another bustling week filled with sunshine and busy customers. Our weeks seem to speed by faster than ever, but we're not complaining – we love the energy and joy that each day brings.

This past Tuesday, we hosted our beloved monthly event called Testimony Tuesday. It warms our hearts to see familiar faces returning to show their support, as well as new faces joining us in backing both the cafe and the incredible work of Shalom House.

As we continue to move forward in our own recovery journeys, our cafe team is focused on putting into action all the valuable lessons we've gleaned from our programs. It can be challenging for some of our team members, especially those who tend to prioritize others' happiness over their own.

However, we're committed to supporting each other, holding ourselves accountable, and pushing through any discomfort that arises. We believe that in these moments of growth and learning, we all emerge stronger and more resilient.

A HUGE STEP FORWARD

This week we’ve had a Dad move over from the Men’s Program and join us at the Families Program. It’s such a huge step forward and a massive achievement.

We all look forward to making this Dad and son feel welcome as they embark on this new journey together.

First time making school lunches, doing school runs, helping his son with his homework - is just a few of the many firsts to come.

Us mums are so happy and feel extremely blessed to be here for this first of what we hope is more to come.

It’s a huge reminder - it’s not just about us mums. But there are so many Dads out there also working hard to rebuild their lives and relationships with their children.

A CAR FOR ROBYN!

Robyn has been in the program for 9 months, and had the pleasure of being granted stage 3 in July. On Wednesday she received the gift of a car. What an incredible blessing!

She is a diligent leader in our Linen Shed, is often seen helping drive the ladies around to events.

She is dedicated to changing her life for the better for both herself and her son. This car is much more than just a vehicle, it will bring a new level of freedom to go out on her days of and the opportunity to start showing up for and attending her son's sporting achievements too.

We are blown away time and time again by the generousity and the support of the public by donating these cars that we are able to gift on to the residents.

SHALOM MECHANICAL - MEET LEIGH

Leigh (Wombat) has been in the program for just 7 months. He is a stage 4 resident that has shown great resilience along the journey and has risen to the challenges placed in front of him.

During his time with us he has shown a willingness to learn new skills in the mechanical workshop and relishes the opportunity to speak life into the other residents. His commitment to never give up make him an inspiration to others around him.

CHANGE FOR A BETTER FUTURE

Once again another week in shalom house. A place where families are restored, chains of life controlling addictions are broken and life is seen in a whole new perspective.

As new residents come through the doors at rock bottom desperate for change. It’s humbling to see where we have come from to where we are going. For many life before shalom is a dark and scary place there is no light only darkness.

First coming into shalom shows you life in a new way like you’ve never seen before, where everyone wants for you and not from you, no ulterior motives just love. Showing you a new meaning to life it doesn’t define you by your past and the mistakes you made but rather opens up doors and opportunities you didn’t think where possible giving you a new perspective on life.

I will forever be grateful for the goodness of this program and all the help we receive to be the best versions of ourselves and to live life to its full potential.

POWERFUL TESTIMONY TUESDAY

At the latest powerful testimony Tuesday event that took place this morning at the cafe, we had the honor of officially launching the Shalom Designs work. The ladies of the team showcased live demos of their incredible work, giving a glimpse into their creativity and talent.

One of the highlights was hearing from Leanne, the leader of the Shalom Designs team, who shared a bit about her background and the inspiring vision behind Shalom Designs. Her passion and dedication shone through as she explained why she is committed to this work.

In addition to Leanne's testimony, we were touched by the stories shared by Katie, a stage two resident, Kirsten, a stage 3 resident, and Krystal, a graduate. Each of their journeys spoke to the impact of addiction and the different levels of challenges it can bring. However, their stories also emphasized the power of healing, restoration, and transformation through hard work, perseverance, commitment, and connection.

It was a reminder to all present that addiction can affect anyone and at any time, but it was also a message of hope that with support and determination, recovery is possible.

These monthly events serve as a platform for these powerful stories to be heard and for the community to come together in support and understanding.

We are already looking forward to the next event and hope to see you all there.

A NEW SEASONS COMING

The previous week at Shalom has been consistent and full of excitement leaving the final week of winter behind us and moving into the first week of spring.

With the weather warming up the guys in the program got a lot of their washing done as well as the daily chores. Taking care of regular every day things in a structured routine is important for recovery.

A handful of the guys from the Men’s program have formed a soccer team where they play at Swan Active every Monday night; while the other fellas at the house watch movies and play board games.

To end the week off in the houses the men done a major house clean on the Saturday followed by organised event and finish the week with family and friends at Family Night.

SHALOM HOUSE ACCOUNTS TEAM

Vanessa is a valued member of our Account Team. She’s been with us for about 4 months and is a stage 5, in the program for 13 months.

Before coming into Accounts, Vanessa had never worked in an office before and struggled with drug addiction.

It’s an absolute blessing watching Vanessa and seeing how much she has grown. She is a total gun at her accounts - Cafe and DGR.

Goes to show, you don’t need to know anything before coming in - Just an eagerness to change for the better and be willing to put in the hard yards. Something Vanessa does on a daily basis.

SMALL MOTORS & STORES TEAM UPDATE

The fellas at Shalom House Stores and small motors have been keeping busy fixing broken equipment and getting the ride on mower up and running for our landscaping teams on the trucks!

We have also had the full team on the HoseRight shipping containers supplying it with a new matte paint job, and is now being fitted with led down lights. Work is really growing here at Shalom and so are our men and women.
