Oh dear Minister John Carey. How wrong you are….

My whole business Choice Accreditation Services is dedicated to ensuring medical imaging departments, practices and individuals adhere to the Radiation Council WA rules and DIAS standards in relation to billing Medicare.

The Capital Sensitivity Rule doesn’t allow you to receive Medicare benefits if your machines are older than below. Let’s hope you didn’t claim anything with old machines (or evidence of upgrades).

Might be a good idea to do a quick audit to make sure no inappropriate billing has occurred or patients put at risk with old technology.

Well we knew they were coming. After reading this bad boy from front to back last night, I think we can safely assume that our desktop accreditation process is moving to an actual on site assessment.

I have loads of thoughts (mostly concerns) as to how my smaller operators, especially those servicing regional and vulnerable folk, will be able to devote the time and money needed to pass this.

I would encourage everyone to go to the Commission’s website and do the survey to advise how these new standards will affect the way you manage imaging in your practice.

You only have until the end of September to have your say. The new standards are due to be released next year.

The Commission has developed National Safety and Quality Medical Imaging (NSQMI) Standards. Once finalised, these standards will replace the existing Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Scheme (DIAS) Standards.

You are invited to review the draft NSQMI Standards and let us know whether:

There are safety and quality issues not addressed that should be
There is duplication or actions in the standards that could be removed
The requirements of the standards are clear and
What are the costs and benefits of moving to risk based standards in medical imaging.
The consultation is open until Friday 27 September 2024.

Visit the Commission’s website to complete a survey, make a submission or register to participate in a virtual forum.

As part of your Full Suite Accreditation submission we need to talk about how you ‘invite’ feedback into your practice and then go about acting on it and changing processes if required.

The information contained in this link is worth considering.

Please know, we will need to demonstrate examples of feedback you have received, and what you did about it. It is a great idea to document feedback (aka a whinge, a grizzle, a look….) so you can revisit it at the end of the month, quarter or year and determine trends. If you don’t document, you will forget and not be able to marvel in all the positive changes you have made along the way, often when you didn’t even realise you were improving your service.

Here are some tips on how to collect patient feedback to improve the patient experience in your practice.

Day 2 of Rural Health West conference. Certainly what we are hearing is that tele-health and virtual consulting for those in rural and remote areas, when done well, is as good as face to face appointments. ‘care delayed is care denied’ Dr Dominic Mallon, Fiona Stanley Hospital.
