Did you know that my services are also available virtually, anywhere in Nova Scotia? 💻📱

I’ll be able to provide you with the knowledge and emotional support during your pregnancy, throughout labour, delivery and postpartum - all you need is a phone, tablet or laptop!

If you’re outside of HRM, tight on free time or just don’t want someone present at delivery, virtual doula may be the perfect fit for you.

Message me for more information. I’d be happy to discuss this fully custom option.

How does connection make you feel?

💕 Comfortable
💕 Happy
💕 Relaxed
💕 Unstoppable
💕 Supported
💕 Powerful
💕 And the list goes on...

There are so many positive feelings you may get from a great connection and having people in your space that you truly connect with. Your postpartum period space should be limited to those people that provide a positive connection while you heal and bond with your baby.

Regardless if it’s in person, chatting on the phone or just texting back and forth, having connection and comfort combined with helping hands to nurture is a beautiful thing.

I offer free 30 minute meet and greets to help start our connection and help you learn if I’m the right fit for you and your family. My goal is to ensure that we bond together in a valuable connection that assists your postpartum care and helps to make your life easier, allowing you to focus on bonding and healing.

Let me say it again, everyone deserves a doula. Everyone deserves help in their transition to parenthood.

Many think you need to have a “problem to fix” to deserve help and support during their postpartum period. That’s simply NOT true.

Mother’s should be nurtured and cared for. The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The women existed but the mother is something absolutely new.

Adding a doula to your support team not only helps the mom but also helps the entire family adapt to their new roles. Dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc. it’s a beautiful transition for everyone in your life.

Everyone deserves a Doula.

I’m there to hold space and help all.

One of my must haves!

If you’re breastfeeding or planning on breastfeeding you’ll LOVE the Haakaa! I can’t recommend these enough!

How does it work? 🤔 When your baby begins to nurse the nerves in your breast send signals to release the milk from your milk ducts - your let-down. The haakaa collects this milk from the side you’re not feeding on.❤️

Haakaa hack: relieving a clogged milk duct.
Add 1-2 tbsp of Epsom salts to your Haakaa
Fill it up with warm water until your ni**le touches it.
Attach the Haakaa to your affected breast and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat as needed for stubborn clogs.
Clog will be released into the water. 🙌

A birth plan is just what it sounds like — a written plan that communicates your wishes and goals for before, during and after labor and delivery.

I like to think of a birth plan more of a preference as the birthing process can be unpredictable. Your planned preferences will be used to tell your healthcare provider and hospital staff your wishes for the kind of birth you would like. It will also give instructions on how you would like your baby to be cared for after their birth.

Some tips on writing out your plan are:

☀️ Research your options

☀️ Remain flexible

☀️ Keep it short and easy to read

☀️ Share it so it can be used

Let me help guide you to write out your birth plan so you are feeling confident and educated during birth and when baby is here.

Did you know that about 1 in 3 babies born in Nova Scotia are by caesarean birth? Even if you’re not planning a caesarean I just want you to know you have options to make your birth align with you.

☀️Skin-to-skin in the OR: Make sure your gown can easily open at the top so baby can be placed on your chest.

☀️Optimal cord clamping: Just like a vaginal birth, providers can give the umbilical cord time to transfer blood and oxygen to the baby before clamping it.

☀️Arms free to hold baby: This allows you to hug and hold your baby right after they’re born.

☀️Lowered drape: You can ask to have your drape lowered during the moment of birth to see your child. Some may be nervous when they first hear about this option that they may see more than they would like to see but rest assured you can really only see your baby and nothing else.

☀️Calm environment and music in the OR: You have the right to request a calm and respectful atmosphere during your birth.

Other things that can be apart of a gentle caesarean are: requesting to be talked through the experience to know what is happening, being told the moment your baby is born, the option to breastfeed in the OR if you are able, leaving the OR as a family instead of being separated, having your support people of choice in the OR with you.

Doulas and partners are the perfect team to make sure you are fully supported and cared for from the beginning of labour right until it's time to snuggle your baby. 🥰

❤️ We can educate your partner on how to best physically and mentally support during the stages of labour and birth.
❤️ Give practical support - helping pack the car, making calls and packing bags
❤️ Discuss both of your concerns and questions regarding what will happen before, during and after birth.
❤️ Provide you and your partner with information you will need to make empowered and informed decisions, explain medical terms and procedures, as well as empowering you to ask the right questions to your health care provider.
❤️ An extra set of hands if your partner needs a rest, to leave the room for a short period or to be with the baby after birth.

People often assume that doulas only support natural birth - but this isn’t true.😁

Having a home birth? I’ll be there ✅
Going to the hospital? I’m there too ✅
Scheduled for a planned caesarean? Wonderful, see you there ✅

Doulas help you approach your birth with trust and confidence, however you’d like to do it.

So, if you’re expecting a baby and would like to know more, I’d love to chat. ❤️

Postpartum Doula Support

Being welcomed into a family's journey and guiding them as they navigate the 'fourth trimester' is truly both a joy and a privilege.
The nature of this work varies from family to family, it's personal and unique because each family's situation is different. Postpartum support might include:

* caring for baby while you grab a shower or have a rest
* feeding support
* learning how to understand baby's cues
* bathing and soothing tips
* light housework
* cooking and preparing nutritious snacks
* help with siblings while you feed or rest
* helping you work out the logistics of leaving the house
* attending appointments with you and baby
* providing a listening ear and giving reassurance
* phone and email support during our time together

A doula's support is unique postnatally - my visits are different from those of friends/family, you don't have to make an effort when I visit - I am there for you! And when I leave I'd like you to be feeling rested, cared for and more confident.

Hey! I'm Jessica; Doula, wife, mama of one to my beautiful son who’s truly my pride and joy. I’m a lover of all things health and well-being. I’m passionate about the transition to parenthood and supporting families at such an incredible time in their lives.

I have experienced birth that resulted in a last minute, unplanned c-section. Which has fuelled my fire to become a doula to offer the support I wish I would have received during labour, birth and postpartum. The importance of a doula became very apparent to me during that time. ❤️
