How well do you know saffron?

As herbalist Nada Beydoun writes, "Saffron is a spice I’ve become familiar with growing up, whether it was by sharing saffron milk tea with family, sharing a meal of saffron rice with Persian friends, or being gifted with dried saffron stigmas and petals...

While saffron may not be the herb that immediately comes to mind when thinking of nervines, there has been extensive research done showing its uplifting effects.

The sight of these flowers in and of themselves brings up positive emotions, with the juxtaposition of the purple and red-orange colors low-growing across fields.

Saffron can also address a range of ailments affecting the digestive system, such as reducing stomach cramping. It also acts as an astringent, which serves to tonify the gut lining and tissues of the digestive tract and reduce excess secretions."

This article on hosrom aka verjuice with herbs for cold and flu was a fun one to write for LearningHerbs.com and I hope to hear your thoughts on it! 🍇🌿

Here's an excerpt, but be sure to click the link to read it all:

"Sharab el hosrom, which is Arabic for unripe (green) grape drink, is a non-brewed condiment commonly made in the villages of Lebanon, where it’s used as a sour flavoring for salads, such as fattoush, as well as in stews, soups, fried vegetables, and even desserts.

Hosrom or verjuice is also an antimicrobial kitchen staple that I use whenever I feel the signs of a cold coming on, such as a sore throat or sinus congestion."

Happy 3 years of Beybotany!
🌿
To celebrate, I'm excited to be doing a giveaway this month! 💚
I'm still trying to understand all that my account Beybotany encompasses and where I want to go with it, but thinking back to what it has brought me up until now, I feel immense gratitude. Interacting and connecting with each one of you from all parts of the world has deepened my outlooks and given me joy and I'm just glad I can live in a time where this can happen so easily.
🌿
Beybotany came from a time that I decided to start my herbal medicine studies and I remember that time being filled with a lot of fear, because this is not a 'traditional' path to take in my family/communities. I CANNOT imagine having gone through with it and not having had this platform to share in and learn from others who are also in this field- I wish I could show my appreciation to each and every single person and community doing this work of connecting people with plants to support and heal ourselves, communities and these lands that we live on.
🌿
The one thing that I know to be true for me is that my life purpose and dedication has been and will always be to center working with people from a refugee background and with the plants. I hope that through this platform you can get a sense of peace, inspiration, and be able to learn from one another.
