Creative Arts Therapy
Bill works to help clients access their innate human capacity for creativity, connection and play so as to reduce the effects of anxiety and depression. His approach is influenced by Drama Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Play Therapy and theories of trauma informed care.
By practicing to be open, creative, adaptable and playful people can learn to live in the moment, be present and connect with their feelings, their loved ones and themselves. Using a mix of creative and talk based therapy Bill helps clients to increase self-esteem, build resiliency and coping skills to prepare for life’s natural inevitable ups and downs. He works with adults, families, children and adolescents and members of the 2ILGBTQ+ community.
Creative Arts therapy uses the creative instincts that live within all people to facilitate self exploration, self expression and growth. Some people feel that they are not creative, this is not true. We all improvise, nobody gets a script for life. We all put on our work “character” and then shift to a new character when we are out with friends on a Friday night. We wear costumes and masks, some comfort while others confine. When we jump for joy or drag our feet, this is the body expressing itself like a dancer. These are all creative process happening naturally.
The main difference between Creative Arts therapy and traditional talk therapy is the use of more than just spoken language as a way to connect, express ones inner world and examine ones self.
