We’re so excited to welcome Aliya back to our front desk team for the summer! 🌸☀️😎

Aliya is currently completing her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Acadia University and hopes to pursue a career in healthcare. She’s excited to continue gaining firsthand experience in a clinical setting while supporting our patients and team this summer.

Today is International Noise Awareness Day, a reminder that loud environments can have lasting effects on our hearing. In fact, noise-related hearing loss is the most common workplace injury in Canada.

Hearing damage caused by noise is often described using the four “P’s”:

🎧 Progressive
🎧 Painless
🎧 Permanent
🎧 Preventable

The most important one? Preventable.

For more than 30 years, HSNS’ Industrial & Community Audiology program has helped workplaces across Nova Scotia protect employees’ hearing through practical strategies and hearing protection solutions.

If you manage a construction site, sports venue, airport tarmac, or other loud environment, support is available.

👂✨ What’s hiding in your ears might surprise you…

Our audiologist is performing video otoscopy, a quick, safe way to look inside the ear canal before services like wax removal or hearing assessments. It’s one of the most important first steps in understanding your hearing health.

🚫 Blocked ears from wax can:
• Muffle sounds
• Make conversations harder to follow
• Even impact how well hearing aids work

The good news? It’s often simple to fix and sometimes, clearer hearing is just one appointment away.

💡 If you’ve been turning up the TV, asking people to repeat themselves, or wondering if your hearing isn’t what it used to be, this is your sign to get checked.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) hearing aids are getting a lot of attention but they’re not approved or regulated in Canada.

Before you buy, it’s important to understand the risks, limitations, and how they compare to professionally fitted devices.

We break it all down in our latest blog.👇
