❌ When your back is rounded, it places more load on the discs and ligaments in your back. Your erectors, which should be engaged aren’t doing the work they are supposed to, when your pelvis is high, there is less load on your thighs and glutes πŸ‘ and this also forcing us to rely on our ligaments. Repetitive spinal flexion (rounded back) when lifting puts you at an increase risk of disc herniation ! 😡

βœ… When your spine is neutral and you are in that squat position it puts more load on your legs and activates your erectors ! πŸ’ͺπŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

continuously lifting improperly will put your body through more wear and tear than necessary and eventually it’ll be more than the back can handle leading to injury. Using proper technique will allow you to move better for longer!

I first graduated from UPEI in 2015 with a BScKin. In my time at UPEI I played 4 years for the UPEI panthers women’s hockey team and 1 year on their varsity rugby team. While being a member of the rugby team I switched roles on the hockey team by becoming their athletic trainer. After graduating from university, I enrolled at ICT Northumberland College to pursue a career as an RMT. I am currently a member of the Canadian Sport Massage Therapy Association as a Sport Massage Therapist Certified Candidate and a member in good standing with MTANS.
I have previously worked with the Halifax Hurricanes πŸ€ (NBL) and helped out with Halifax Mooseheads πŸ’πŸ₯… (QMJHL) during playoffs. Most recently I was the RMT/AT for the Calgary Wolfpack 🏈, now that I am back from Calgary I’m looking forward to working with more teams and building my patient base at Onside Performance Center. πŸ’ͺ
