Honor the Past, Care for the Future 💚✊🏾

We are halfway through February, and our celebration of African Heritage Month and Black History Month is in full swing!

This year’s theme, “Strength in Unity – Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power and Progress,” reminds us that unity is an active force. In Nova Scotia, this strength is rooted in 52 historic African Nova Scotian communities—each with a legacy of resilience spanning over 400 years.

At the heart of this unity are the Elders. As the Halifax regional website beautifully notes, they are our "knowledge keepers and culture bearers." Their wisdom grounds us in where we come from and guides where we are going.

In our organization, we see this legacy lived out through our caregivers. By providing compassionate care to our elders and community members, our African and Black Nova Scotian caregivers are the bridge between our history and our future. They carry forward the principles of recognition and justice through every act of service.

Let’s keep moving forward together:
✨ Learn: Tracing the roots of this month back to 1926 reminds us how far we’ve come.
✨ Reflect: Think about the 52 historic communities that make our province unique.
