SUGAR Health's warmline hours have changed! You can still reach us during our regular hours (Tues 11am-2pm, Wednesday 5:30pm-830pm) but now, if you contact us outside of those times by text, you can expect a response within 24-48 hours. If you need to speak with someone over the phone, you can book a call by emailing or texting us. We're here to support you. Text us at 1(888)299-2066.

Last year, we successfully secured enough funding to keep our site and team running until March. Now, we’re exploring additional funding opportunities to ensure we can continue our work. But to keep things going, we could use your help.

Every donation today will directly support the operation of our site, allowing us to provide valuable sexual, gender, and reproductive health resources to our Nova Scotian community. Your contribution will help us stay on track and move forward.

Donations can be made my e-transfer to shns.treasurer@gmail.com with the password 'sugar' or by visiting shns.ca and making a donation there. Please be sure to add a note that it is for SUGAR Health.

L’année dernière, nous avons réussi à obtenir suffisamment de financement pour maintenir notre site et notre équipe en activité jusqu’en mars. Nous étudions maintenant d’autres possibilités de financement pour nous assurer de pouvoir poursuivre notre travail. Mais pour continuer, nous avons besoin de votre aide.

Its Monday! Our warmline is open until 2pm today. We will be back on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm until 8:30 pm.

C'est lundi ! Notre ligne d'assistance est ouverte jusqu'à 14h aujourd'hui. Nous serons de retour le mercredi soir de 17h30 à 20h30.

We are fully booked for sexual and reproductive health appointments (including things like STI tests, Pap tests, PrEP, pelvic exams, etc) for the month of August. At this time, we still have availability for gender-affirming care and social work service.

We understand that it's very frustrating that demand for our services outpaces our capacity. If you are looking for these services, please check out for a directory of other clinics and resources around the province.

If you have any questions and wish to speak to an admin, please call us at 902-455-9656 ext 0. We are happy to assess your unique situation as well as check on cancellations.

We at the Halifax Sexual Health Centre are SO excited to announce that we have COMPLETED our waitlist for starting gender-affirming hormones! 🥳 This means that folks who call in to start their gender-affirming journeys will be able to be booked right away, or within the next month. It is very possible that the waitlist will return if demand exceeds our capacity, but for now, let’s celebrate!

As many folks know, for as long as we have offered this service, we have run a waitlist that has fluctuated greatly. Waits have varied greatly depending on funding, clinician availability, demand for service, etc. For some folks, the wait was only three months, but for many, many others, the wait was well over a year.

We know that long waits are a massive barrier to gender-affirming care access, and that the waiting period can be seriously distressing. We hope that community members who were dissuaded from seeking care by the waitlist can now consider starting their gender-affirming journeys with us, using our informed consent process (no readiness letter needed!).

We could not have completed this waitlist without our dedicated clinical team that took on additional shifts and additional patients, participated in training other providers in gender-affirming care, and gave their expertise in our program development. We would also like to thank our funders who have contributed to supporting our gender-affirming care programming over the recent years, including , , and the Dept. of Health and Wellness.
