Dalhousie Commerce students sleeping out to raise awareness
For the fourth year in a row, the Dalhousie Commerce Society (DCS) will forego the comforts of home and sleep outside the Rowe School of Business for Halifax’s 5 Days for the Homeless campaign. 5 Days for the Homeless is a national initiative that started at the University of Alberta in 2004 and has raised over $1,212,000 across Canada
to date. Dalhousie University is the only university east of Montreal taking part, and the Commerce Society has set an ambitious goal - to raise $10,000 through this initiative!
5 Days for the Homeless strives to raise awareness of youth homelessness in Canada, while fundraising for a local charitable organization. The Dalhousie Commerce Society has partnered with Phoenix Youth Programs (Phoenix) in their mission to help youth rise above. Phoenix offers a continuum of supports and services, addressing not only the essential needs of food and shelter, but also prevention, community outreach, education & employment supports, skills development, recreation therapy, and more. For 30 years Phoenix has been providing hope for a brighter future, by helping youth achieve their full potential whereby strengthening the bonds between families and communities that contribute to healthy, local commerce. Dalhousie's 5 Days for the Homeless campaign will begin Sunday, March 12th and will continue through Friday, March 17th. Four dedicated students will be sleeping outside of the Kenneth C. Rowe building for the duration of the campaign, encouraged by the kindness of the Halifax community. Opening and closing ceremonies will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12th and 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Kenneth C. Rowe Management building respectively. Join the Dalhousie Commerce Society in supporting Phoenix and the amazing work they are doing within the Halifax community. Follow the campaign on Facebook at 5 Days for the Homeless - Dalhousie and the Dalhousie Commerce Society as well as Twitter . The Dalhousie Commerce Society is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of over 1000 full time undergraduate, commerce co-op students. They strive to build a sense of community among all Dalhousie commerce undergraduates, and serve as the link between students, faculty, the business community, and business schools across Canada.
