Independent Living Nova Scotia

Independent Living Nova Scotia ILNS runs the only IL Resource Centre in Nova Scotia. Be respectful of others. Access to Social media platforms is a privilege and not a right.

We are a registered charity supporting persons with disabilities to make informed choices about how they want to live their lives through programs and services that promote Independent Living. Social Media Public Policy

Independent Living Nova Scotia, ILNS, encourages all members of the public to contribute to the vibrant, dynamic, and interactive spirit of our online social media community

Our goal is to provide an online community where people with all kinds of views, theories, and concerns can express themselves, can share information, and can interact with one another in a safe, respectful manner. Comments, posts, messages and creative content are welcome, providing they are in keeping with our mission, vision, service values and policies. Contributors and their contributions must comply with and not violate our Policies, Terms of Use and Rules of Conduct. We want all people who visit us to have a good experience when they are here. Anything that supports this aim is encouraged. ILNS may edit or remove inappropriate or off-topic comments at any time. Keep your comments on topic. Protect Your Privacy. Comments on social media are visible to the general public. Protect your privacy and don’t give out personal information such as email addresses, telephone numbers or street addresses. Doing so may make you susceptible to spam and unauthorized communication. Links to Other Web Sites. ILNS is not responsible for the content of any linked Web site, or any link contained in a linked Web site, or any changes or updates to such Web sites. The inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement of that Web site. In addition, please be aware that ILNS is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other Web sites. ILNS encourages you to read the privacy statements of every Web site that requests personal information from you. ILNS reads all comments and messages; however, we cannot reply to every message and comment we receive on our Social Media accounts. Although we can receive your comments at any time, we update and monitor our accounts only during normal working hours. Occasionally, we may publish messages outside working hours. Despite employee’s professional affiliation with the ILNS, their posts do not represent the official position of the organization. Posts should be seen as the personal messages of individual citizens and ILNS takes no responsibility for the content of its employees’ personal social media accounts. The fact that the ILNS may follow certain people or groups does not mean that we support them or endorse what they say. Any individual who does not adhere to these rules may be excluded temporarily or permanently from the Social Media channels hosted by ILNS. Users may also be reported to Facebook, YouTube or Twitter if they do not adhere to these service providers’ terms of use.

The Province of Nova Scotia is sharing important news about the Nova Scotia Waitlist Settlement

A class action lawsuit was filed against the Province of Nova Scotia indicating that individuals eligible for Disability Support Program (DSP) services between April 1, 1998 and August 20, 2025, were placed on waiting lists for necessary support systems. As a result, a $34 million settlement was approved by the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia on November 12, 2025.
