Nova Scotia Health's One Patient One Record (OPOR) goes live in Central Zone on May 9, 2026. As an independent clinic, HSHC will continue to use MedAccess for our medical records. However, patients can expect to see a slow down in other health departments, such as specialist appointments, surgeries, and imaging appointments. Medical records (blood work and STI test results, imaging results, specialist notes, etc) may take longer than usual to be sent to HSHC.

We will continue to use a ‘no news is good news’ system, however, please allow up to 1 week for bloodwork results, up to 3 weeks for STI results, and up to 8 weeks for cervical screening (Pap test) results. Patients can also use the YourHealthNS app to check in on completed results.

OPOR will be a new experience for all of Central Zone. We thank you for your patience!

We are so excited to announce that we are a recipient of a Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Community Grant Program! Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia will be supporting our social work support program, which includes in-house gender-affirming care intakes and surgical readiness letters, as well as collaborative primary care services, such as diagnosis acceptance, resource navigation, single issue mental/sexual health discussions, and more! These services are completely free and are offered in person or virtually to anyone living in Nova Scotia.

Additionally, we'll be expanding our social service team to include a Gender-Affirming Care Coordinator! Stay tuned for more information as the program develops 👀

We've noticed a recent uptick in community members calling HSHC to ask for a referral to get an abortion. We are happy to report that this is not necessary! There is no need to delay care - you can SELF-REFER for an abortion by calling or filling out the online form for the ROSE (Reproductive Options and Services) Clinic. They will arrange for services across the province.

Not sure what option is best for you? Try out the It's My Choice tool, or call Action Canada, Abortion Care Canada, or the ROSE Clinic! They will be happy to review options with you. You can also book a pregnancy options visit with HSHC, but we want to make sure you get connected to services in a timely manner.
