Check out these great grounding techniques shared by Alice House. Grounding techniques that you can use anywhere are a valuable part of your toolbox. Not every technique will be the perfect fit for you so it is helpful to have several options to choose from.

Have your tried any of these? Which ones are effective for you?

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, triggered, or numb? Grounding techniques can help bring you back to the present moment. 🌱 Grounding is a set of simple strategies that can help create distance from difficult emotions caused by stress, anxiety, or past trauma.

Some grounding practices might include:
✨ noticing things around you
✨ planting your feet firmly on the floor
✨ focusing on your breathing
✨ naming objects, colours, or sounds nearby
✨ stretching or lying with your legs up the wall

Grounding isn’t about “fixing” feelings. It’s about helping your mind and body reconnect with the here and now.

Want to explore more healing tools and coping strategies? Alice on the Go is a free online program for women who have experienced IPV.

Congratulations to Brené Brown on 30 years. What from her reflection resonates with you?

Yesterday marked my 30-year sobriety birthday, and I wanted to celebrate by sharing one gratitude for each decade.

1. My sobriety will always be the most important thing I do, because it allows me to fully love—and be loved by—the people who matter most in my life. I’m grateful for it every single day, even when it feels like a street fight.

2. Five years ago, a woman approached me in an airport and thanked me for writing about sobriety as a superpower. She said it helped her get sober. I’m grateful for all the people whose words helped me along the way. Before boarding her flight, she asked if I’d accept a gift from a stranger. I said yes. She handed me her first AA chip. I carry it in my purse every day. We were never strangers.

3. My favorite line from the AA Big Book reads: “That is the miracle of it. We are not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we have been placed in a position of neutrality—safe and protected. We have not even sworn off. Instead, the problem has been removed. It does not exist for us. We are neither cocky nor afraid. That is our experience. That is how we react so long as we keep in fit spiritual condition.”

Understanding and keeping in fit spiritual condition has been a decades-long challenge for me. I wrote about it in the final chapter of Strong Ground and I thought I’d share that full chapter with you today as a “thank you.” To read, go to the home page of brenebrown.com.

Today I am sober af and I am grateful. ❤️

Thank you so much to the BLT Community Market and the BLT Community for coming out and raising $289 for The Marguerite Centre. A huge part of recovery is community and connection. We felt the warmth of this amazing community today. We got to chat with visitors and share our work. Thank you to MLA Iain Rankin for coming out to support this event. These beautiful flowers were gifted to us for the house ❤️

Did you miss it? Don't worry you can catch the next BLT Community Market on the second Saturday of June.

Check in with yourself, check in on others, start a conversation. Mental health matters đź’š

đź’šThank you to the Province of Nova Scotia for proclaiming May 4 -10 as Mental Health Week in Nova Scotia.

Every year, Mental Health Week invites us to reflect on our own well-being, check in with each other, and open conversations about mental health in ways that feel honest, accessible, and grounded in real experience.

This year’s theme, Come Together, Canada, calls on Canadians from coast to coast to coast to connect—with the people in our lives and the communities around us.

Because when we come together, we don’t just feel better—we are better supported, more resilient, and more able to thrive.

After a week of very deep work, the long weekend provides much needed rest. But, holiday weekends can also bring challanges and a mix of emotions while on your recovery journey. Thank you to Bags of Love Association -Nova Scotia for lovely the Easter care bags. Just the love and support the residents needed to end the day and move into the weekend.

Self-love is a big part of healing.

On Friday, we celebrated a double graduation with two extremely, hard-working, dedicated women. Congratulations! We are so proud of you. Their advice to others on their recovery journey had a shared theme. It is important to (re)learn to love yourself.

For your Sunday reset, what steps will you take this week on your journey to self-love?
