With snow finally on the ground, winter sports are officially in full swing. From sledding with the kids to snowshoeing or hitting the hills, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿.

Winter sun, blowing snow, and biting wind can all strain your eyes. Goggles provide essential protection against these harsh winter conditions.

𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪? Excessive wind exposure can cause the white part of the eye to become irritated, which can lead to permanent yellow discolouration – also called pinguecula.

We love when our team gets opportunities like this — and brings home fresh "insight" to share with our patients. Kindness has always been at the heart of our clinic. Five years ago, we decided to take it further by joining the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation and becoming RAKtivists (activists for kindness).

Since then, our Make Kindness the Norm campaign has grown into something bigger than we imagined, guiding how we care for our patients, support our team, and connect with our community.

Even after five years, we’re still learning, still growing, and still letting kindness lead the way.

If you’d like to donate, there’s still time! Drop off new socks in our vestibule (1575 Brunswick Street) until Friday at 6:00 PM.

We’re especially looking for women’s and children’s socks to help balance our collection.

A simple act of kindness can go a long way — and in this case, it travels on warm, cozy feet.

🎃 𝗕𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆 👀 A few spooky-season reminders from the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO):

1. Costume contacts? Only if they’re prescribed — your eyes aren’t a Halloween experiment!
2. Go easy on the makeup near your lashes — no one wants a frightful infection.
3. Masks should look cool, not cut off your vision.
4. Add reflective tape or a light so the ghosts see you coming!

A comprehensive eye exam can make a big difference in how they play, learn and see the world!

The Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) recommends:
• First exam: 6-9 months old
• Second exam: 2-5 years old
• Then: Every year once they’re in school
