Remembrance Day is marked with meaningful moments of reflection and gratitude across Shannex communities.

At Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Truro, residents—including three veterans—were joined by members of the Royal Canadian Legion Truro Branch for a ceremony.

At Losier Hall in Miramichi, residents created poppy crafts and gathered for a ceremony to honour those who served. Nearby at Bridgeview Hall, residents and team members also came together to pay their respects.

With gratitude, we remember all who have served and continue to serve.

This Nurse Practitioner Week, we’re proud to recognize the incredible professionals who provide compassionate, expert care every day. Meet Alison MacMellon, one of our outstanding team members at West Bedford Transitional Health.

From a young age, Alison knew she wanted to work in health care—and today, she exemplifies the dedication, knowledge, and heart that define our approach to care.

At West Bedford Transitional Health, patients 18+ receive the support they need to move from hospital care to home or community—an innovative model that bridges the gap between traditional healthcare and community care.

When reflecting on her role and impact, Alison credits patients for being an essential part of their own success: “Here, patients are not passive recipients of care and services, but are essential collaborators in their care plan, health journey and chance at returning home,” she says.

Nurse Practitioners like Alison play an important role in shaping the future of health care. As she shares: “We have an opportunity to work together and respond to the changing demands of our system, serving different populations while maturing as a model of care.”

It was the power of community that made Losier and Bridgeview Hall shine this week!

River Force Cheer Academy lit up Losier Hall with an incredible performance and donated two generous baskets for residents and team members. Residents enjoyed bingo, costumes, and plenty of laughs, while team members treated themselves to delicious peanut butter cup cold brews.

At Bridgeview Hall, Miramichi Garden Club brightened the space with beautiful floral arrangements that residents loved. Max Aitken School joined for “Reverse Trick-or-Treating,” and Kindertots Children’s Centre Inc. brought spook-tacular costumes and shared treats.

Learning never tasted so sweet! Residents and RN students from Dalhousie University came together at Parkland at the Gardens for High Tea Social to mark the end of their clinical placements.

During their time with us, the students immersed themselves in community life—developing and leading meaningful recreational programs for Assisted Living and Enriched Care residents.

At the High Tea celebration, everyone enjoyed great conversation and even better food. It was a lovely day celebrating new friendships and shared learning.

London Hall team members and residents hit the Halifax Boardwalk for some fresh air and sunshine, even when the Nova Scotia rain tried to slow them down! Sometimes, even a short outing is all it takes to stay active and enjoy great company. Nothing beats a little fresh air and fun to brighten the day 🌟
