Sage Elements Naturopathic Clinic A page devoted to interesting natural health topics and news from Sage Elements Naturopathic Clinic.

Sage Elements Naturopathic Clinic is a natural health clinic devoted to promoting natural health and the well-being of the community through high quality, individualized care to our patients. To this end, we offer a wide range of services to our patients, including:

Naturopathic Medicine
Counseling/energy work
Physiotherapy
Acupuncture

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct form of primary care. It is the embodiment of holistic care through the incorporation of physiological, mental, emotional and spiritual influences on an individual's health. Assessment of the individual's needs includes an in depth intake, as well as laboratory testing and a physical exam when warranted. Laboratory testing available includes:

IgG Food Allergy
Saliva Hormones (for various hormones)
Hair Analysis
Urinalysis
Heavy Metal Testing

Treatment protocols utilize one or more of our modalities, which include nutrition, botanicals/herbs, supplementation, acupuncture, physical medicine and/or homeopathy. On completion of the initial visit, patients leave with a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. Through compassionate, top quality and individualized care we are committed to helping each patient reach their health goals.

🥳 Repost from Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine:

Naturopathic medicine is now formally recognized as part of Canada’s evolving primary care landscape.

We’re pleased to share that naturopathic doctors are featured in the newly released Compendium of Roles in Team-Based Primary Care, officially launched in April 2025 by the Canadian Health Workforce Network.

This national publication profiles the wide range of professionals contributing to modern primary care — now including naturopathic doctors and their role in collaborative, patient-centered care.

This achievement reflects the leadership of CCNM faculty and alumni, and the continued collaboration between CCNM, the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND), and other integrative health partners.

It is with great sadness that I am writing that our long time physiotherapist, Bill Humphries, has passed away. Bill joined me at Sage Elements in 2009. He was looking to join a clinic part time as he wanted to wind down his practice and “retire”. Over the past 15 years, Bill was a wonderful addition to our team. He was always one to chat, share stories and was very inquisitive about a great many things. As such, he was a lifelong learner and loved to share what he learned with others. He was a very skilled physiotherapist, who would volunteer his time and expertise to those less fortunate overseas. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Rest in peace, Bill.

At long last, legislation fully regulating naturopathic medicine has been passed in Nova Scotia! This is the culmination of decades of work and collaboration by many of our members (myself included!). It is long overdue and welcome recognition that will give Nova Scotians greater access to high quality medical care delivered by highly trained naturopathic doctors. We are joining 5 other fully regulated jurisdictions in Canada, some of which have been regulated for almost 90 years!

Having worked in the naturopathic medical field for almost 18 years, a recurrent story I hear from my patients is that, when communicating with their medical doctor, they are belittled and at times berated by their doctor or specialist for seeking naturopathic medical care from a licensed ND. This happened to one of my patients just last week. For my part, I try to be professional and respectful when discussing treatments offered by any other health professional. Both allopathic and naturopathic philosophies, while not always in agreement, can work very well to support one another for the betterment of our mutual patients.

Here is a article emphasizing how a collaborative approach can be a viable solution and lead to positive outcomes. It is important to realize that harm can be done, not only by interacting supplements and medications, but also by selecting the wrong treatment for the situation. When utilizing natural medicines, seeking guidance from highly trained Naturopathic Doctors, as experts in this field, only makes good sense.

We are here for collaboration, not competition, with our allopathic medical colleagues.

It always makes me scratch my head when my patients tell me that their doctor or another health care professional says, “Diet doesn’t matter!” It does. And, though scientific evidence is great, it shouldn’t be a big leap to conclude that processed food is at least partially to blame for many of our diseases of affluence. Its simple. Eat as our ancestors ate. You usually can’t go wrong with of the earth, natural food…and its tasty!
