Instagram is a lovely spot to connect, reflect and share about mental health and creativity within our communities. However, it is important to remember that it is not a substitute for therapy.

I am so grateful you’re here to learn, share and connect with me in this way ❤️ if you’re looking for real therapeutic support, please reach out via the link in my bio and myself or a colleague in my network will be more than happy to help you find the right support for you at this time.

When we think about stories - those told on big screens, around the dinner table, or the ones we tell ourselves - we often imagine them as fixed. As though once something has been written, experienced, or believed, it must remain unchanged.

But stories are constantly being shaped and reshaped through perspective, context, memory, and meaning. Think of a game of telephone, where a single sentence transforms as it moves from person to person. In films adapted from books, the same story can feel entirely different depending on what is highlighted, softened, removed, or reimagined. In many ways, we do this throughout our lives as well.

This workshop invites us to explore the idea that perhaps our stories are not as fixed as we’ve been taught to believe. Through altered books, collage, and creative exploration, we will reflect on what we might want to reclaim, rewrite, rediscover, or make space for as we move into a new season.

Did you know? Bilateral scribbling uses both hands at the same time to engage both sides of the brain - the same mechanism used in EMDR.
This can support self-regulation, help process emotions, and gently reconnect your mind + body.

There is no experience with art required to engage with Art Therapy, and this process is a great example to begin exploring the benefits of creative release/expression.

This Saturday marks the final date of our first 3 Art Therapy Group Workshops! In this workshop we will be creating mini homes that will serve as a physical representation of how we feel/desire to feel in our bodies. There will be an emphasis on creating elements of safety and facilitating self-expression through design and material choices.

While this workshop is currently full, stay tuned for more workshops to be announced soon! Can’t wait? I also see individual clients and have a few spots open in person and virtually - my booking link is in my bio 😊

Thank you to everyone who has shown up, shared these posts, and been open to learning about Art Therapy and mental health supports. As always, a huge thank you to for making this possible 🧡

I can finally share that I had the absolute honour to be a part of latest release of The Grief Project, where she turns real grief into art.

I can’t even begin to describe how healing this process was - as an Art Therapist, I have a great respect and understanding for how the art can hold what words can’t. But to witness how another person, a stranger essentially, was able to capture the essence of my grief, is so touching. Grief can be so isolating - to have it witnessed and captured by another allows you to come into a space of shared witnessing, connection and love.

So, this is me introducing ’What Becomes of Us’ by Chanelle Jefferson. Title inspired by song Lucy.

Thank you .cuisine for the amazing food inspired by each painting/story, and for capturing photos of the evening.

A peek inside the sacred space we hold together in session - a space where all of your parts are welcomed with compassion and curiosity.

I’m honoured to be an intimate witness of our shared humanity and complexities. Thank you for trusting me and teaching me more about life and love and humanness ❤️

With love and gratitude always,
Sarah

Over three gatherings, we explored the wisdom of the elements through art, reflection, and shared presence.

Each element offered something different; permission to feel, to transform, to make space, and to return to ground.

What stayed with me most was the openness, care, and insight that emerged when people allowed themselves to show up just as they were.

This work continues to remind me that healing happens in connection, when there is room for safety and expression.

Thank you to everyone who shared this space together. My next group is scheduled for April 25th at Eating Disorders NS from 1-230pm, making 3D models out of recycled materials. Link in bio!

This is who shows up to support you in navigating the complexity and messiness of being human.

I am glad I have this younger part of myself to draw on. Connecting to her playful creativity plays an integral part in my practice and the work I do with clients.

And of course I couldn’t leave my pets out of this trend, simply because their baby pictures were too cute not to share!

How do your younger parts inform how you show up today? This is something I explore in individual sessions. If you’re interested in this sort of work, reach out for a free consult (link in bio)

Celebrating International Women’s Day a day late with this one…The fields of psychology, psychotherapy, and art therapy didn’t appear overnight.

They were shaped by generations of thinkers, artists, educators, and clinicians who believed there were deeper ways to understand healing.

So many of those pioneers were women.

From early art therapy voices like Florence Cane, Margaret Naumburg, and Edith Kramer…

To leaders like Lucille Proulx, founder of the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy, whose work helped grow the art therapy community in Canada, and myself as an Art Therapist.

To contemporary voices like Natalie Rogers, Sue Johnson, Pat Ogden, and Janina Fisher who continue to expand how we understand creativity, attachment, trauma, and healing.

I’m grateful to be walking a path that so many women helped create.

For the therapists and helpers here,
whose work has shaped the way you practice?
