Once people have a couple of acupuncture sessions, they get pretty comfortable with needles.

Things return patients have said that made me know they were comfortable:

“Can you give me 100 needles?”
“Can you needle my whole body?”
“The more, the better!”
“Just needle everywhere!”

Of course, we can get great results with 10 or less needles, but it’s always good to know when people have had a comfortable experience :)

If you’ve ever experienced the “runner’s high”, then you’ll know the feeling that we try to describe by using the term “acupuncture high”.

It is a state that many patients get to enjoy after their acupuncture session. It has been described as a feeling of zen, calmness, joy, etc.

There are many beneficial physiological changes that happen during acupuncture and these can all attribute to this feeling of relaxation.

Daily habits shape our actions and behaviors over time. They help in building discipline, consistency, and achieving long-term goals. Here are some tips to help you develop and maintain small daily habits:

Begin with easy tasks that require minimal effort and time commitment.

Assign a specific time slot in your daily routine for the habit if that helps you stay consistent.

Use alarms, sticky notes, or digital reminders to prompt and reinforce your habit.

Keep a record of your daily habit in a journal or through habit tracking apps.

Share your habit and progress with a friend, family member or join a community that holds you accountable.

Aim to perform the habit consistently, even if it’s not executed perfectly each time.

Be flexible and willing to adapt your habits as circumstances change. Life is dynamic, so adjust your habits accordingly.

Remember that even the tiniest actions can create significant change over time. Don’t underestimate the impact of daily habits in shaping your life 🌱

Q: What should I wear to my acupuncture appointment?

A: Ultimately, you can wear whatever you’d like, but loose fitting clothing is ideal.

- If your treatment includes points on the arms, consider wearing a short-sleeved top, or a top where the sleeves roll up
- If your treatment involves points on the legs, consider wearing loose fitting pants that can roll up, or bring shorts with you if you’d like
- Some patients like to have treatment on their upper back but feel more comfortable remaining covered. In these cases, I have them bring in a tank top to allow access to the area.

I have sheets at the clinic which allows access to the areas being worked on while keeping the patient covered as much as possible. The above suggestions are more so for people who feel more comfortable with leaving layers on.

You can wear whatever you’d like to your appointment. Your comfort is the main priority :)

Times that breathing exercises can be helpful:

▫️When you are overthinking/your thoughts are racing

▫️When you’re experiencing a difficult emotion

▫️When you are getting into the headspace for meditation

▫️In the morning to start the day on a good note or in the evening to help you sleep

▫️Throughout the day to bring you back into your body and practice mindfulness

The acu nap ⬇️

It is common for patients to feel deeply relaxed and even fall asleep during an acupuncture session due to the calming effects of the treatment.

This relaxed state is a natural response to the stimulation of specific points on the body, which can help to reduce pain, anxiety, and other symptoms.

The term “acu nap” is sometimes used to describe the state of deep relaxation and rejuvenation that some people experience during an acupuncture treatment.
