🍗𝓑𝓸𝓷𝓮 𝓑𝓻𝓸𝓽𝓱 🍖
This nutrient dense, gut healing liquid should be part of everyones diet. Chalk full of amino acids, protein builders and many immune boosting properties 🥣 Bone broth emcompases the idea, nose to tail in not wasting this preciius resourse. A way to honour the whole animal, organ meats are just as important as the roast and ground meats we consume. Many if any broths on shelves at the supermarkets are not made from the bones and are instead flavoured waters. A topic for discussion another day as today is all about homemade goodness!
We all can make this, it is so easy and if you have a slowcooker even better. Ideally we want the bones to simmer 10 -12hrs, even longer. Knuckle bone, marrow bone, chicken feet, left over bones from roasts these are all great broth makers. If I plan ahead a bit we will save some veggie scraps like peels, skins, etc just toss in the freezer if need be until ready to use. Grab your biggest pot, toss in the selected bones, herbs of choice, I like thyme, rosemary, bay, sage all of those wonderful aromatics for the season. Chop up some veggies for added flavour, anything goes as far as I'm concerened (organic is best but if it isn't available, don't beat yourself up) wash them well and toss in. Carrots, garlic, onion, sweet potatoe skins, fennel etc Don't forget the scraps you may have saved in the freezer! Celery, pasrley is another good one especially for some extra gut healing qualities. Add water to cover ingredients, turn on let it come to almost a boil then turn down to simmer! That's it, easy peasy 😊
(Long simmer is not always best, if you have autism a short simmer will be beneficial for you) Now why 𝓑𝓸𝓷𝓮 𝓑𝓻𝓸𝓽𝓱?! Well it is oh so delicious on its own, added to homemade soups, gravy etc Broth helps to heal our gut, great for autoimmune disorders, supports hair, nail & teeth health, helps support leaky gut, joint health and more! AND it is a great first food for babies as well as expecting & post partum moms ❤ Weightlifters, athletes and fitness gurus will benefit greatly from broth too!!
Have you made any? What are some of your favourite things to add in?
