Daniela received her Yoga Teacher certification in 2006 at The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre. She enjoys learning and continuously explores various styles so her practice evolves. Personal growth is a driving force and lead her to train in Reiki, Ayurveda, Meditation and Mindfulness. She’s recently trained with Molly Birkholm to receive a certificate in Transforming Trauma with Yoga and Yoga Nidra. She loves this journey and would be happy to share it with you.

Anna(Little Swede on the Prairie) and I will be hosting an Enneagram & Yoga workshop on Sunday, January 19th at Pure Vibe Studios Ltd. in Lloydminster!!
Open to complete beginners or any level of yogi or Enneagram understanding!
Gather with likeminded people who seek to have a better understanding of their inner workings.
We intermix the Enneagram teachings with Yoga to connect to our Head, Heart and Body in a grounded and relaxing way.

This morning I attended a lovely yoga class at Pure Vibe Studios Ltd. which has been a home and sanctuary for me since it opened its doors ten years ago.
I’m beyond grateful for the folks that have created this community. The owners have put their dollars, time, sweat and tears into keeping its doors open and I have a warm, clean and beautiful space to share my passion. The rent, the taxes, the utility bills, employees and other costs associated with running a business are taken care of so that I can just show up and teach without a care in the world about how I’ll be able to pay for a space. It is truly a gift.
I can’t begin to express gratitude towards the clients that spend their money as a contribution to this place that offers us all the opportunity to practice in a supportive and professional environment.
We are the lucky ones that get to belong together in this studio of the purest vibes.

Taylor Swift recently suggested that “it’s me, I’m the problem” and I’ve been wondering this about myself for a while so I enrolled some help.

I’ve been getting coaching sessions from Anna at Spirit & Spear. She’s a certified life coach and Enneagram coach. Enneagram is a system of personality types where you learn about your personality patterns, strengths and (gasp) weaknesses. It’s a good honest look at yourself in the mirror without filters and nice lighting but fortunately there’s a guide and a roadmap that will lead to a better understanding of your true beauty.

The Enneagram work with Anna has given me some really profound insights into why I do the things I do and how I operate in the world to make myself feel safe. Even the things that I’m embarrassed to admit and the things that end up hurting other people. Thankfully this is when her lesson in self-compassion kicks in, and you think ‘how adorable of me acting like a fool in the world is so i can feel safe!!’ And it makes those aforementioned weaknesses seem less cringy.

You might be thinking “nah, not me. I’m a tough guy and I don’t need anyone or anything to keep me safe” well that might be you trying to stay away from relying on others who could hurt your feelings. Maybe you think you don’t even have feelings or maybe you just keep them locked up away from danger. Or maybe you’re thinking “heavens no, I don’t care about my safety my concern is for other people’s safety. I’m a selfless angel that does all the nice things for all the others” and that might be you trying to stay safe by having people think you’re a saint. I mean you might be a saint but you also could be trying to manipulate others to get what you want from them.

There’s a lot more, and I know I’ve either acted them out myself or have had the “pleasure” of having them acted out on me. Along with self-compassion, I’ve gained a touch more compassion towards others too.

This work has also shed some light on how I want people to see me. Spoiler alert it’s fun and adventurous even when what I really want is to be at home on my couch…but not for too long because I’ll need to do something fun so that I can distract myself from the existential dread that comes with an undistracted moment. But anyways “love me because I’m fun and the life of the party!”

I absolutely love Anna’s work and she’s the sweetest human you’ll ever meet but I find myself trying to come up with excuses in my head to try and avoid these sessions with her. Why?! She’s not forcing me to be there. And I’m the one that wants to do this inner work but at the same time I’d rather avoid seeing what’s in the mirror! What if it’s ugly and hard to look at? (Don’t worry even if it makes me cry by the end of the session I inevitably feel great.) Or what if what I see is a potential for greatness?! I know, insert eyeroll, that shouldn’t be something to avoid. But I’m guessing if you look a little deeper in yourself, you’ll see that keeping yourself in your little cage of excuses feels much safer than the infinite potential available to you. Might be just me though.

Even booking sessions can be a challenge (via zoom that couldn’t be more convenient) but thankfully she knows my ‘type’ and is compassionately flexible to my fear of committing to anything in advance. You might be thinking “but Daniela you seem so committed” while in my head I constantly have one foot out the door or maybe “Daniela you seem so spontaneous” when in my head I’ve been mentally planning an escape trip for months but just don’t book it until the day before. And with my new awareness on this particular “weakness” (but sometimes “strength”) I’m working towards doing what’s actually helping me. You see when I think I’m keeping my schedule open for spontaneous trips or fun things that haven’t been schemed up yet, I’m actually chaining myself to a false sense of freedom in order to avoid the fear of being trapped and that can cause me(and others) a lot of heartache and headaches.
The freedom that I truly seek is on the other side of my fear of commitment.

She’s guiding me into discovering what I’m avoiding and who it is that i could be without spending so much of my energy running away from what I don’t want to feel. “Who could you be without this fear Daniela?” She often asks and then patiently guides me through a meditation that helps me see my not so scary potential. I’ve decided a better use of my energy would be to walk towards what I do want rather than run away from what I don’t want.

TL;DR
Anna is a great coach if you’d like some help with your life or even to just feel seen for who you really are.
