And just like that, the week is done and we are back in the office today. Hearts full of gratitude, rested and connected. We needed this time!

I’m often giving people suggestions of what to do to support a healthy lifestyle at home. Rest, connection and slowing is a frequent topic. Sometimes our body demands that of us via injury or illness. (Blessings in disguise that force us to listen to our body, but that’s a post for another day.)

We can also seek rest and recovery. And that was this holiday for us. After too much busy-ness, we all needed time to slow down and connect.
🦋We watched sunsets and waves, butterflies and fireflies.
🌸We had deep chats about life and chats about the divine the scent of milkweed blossoms drifting across the beach.
❤️ It was a week of slowing down to deeply appreciate each other, our life, and beautiful GBay where we live. It was everything we needed.

I so feel this. In my own mama-journey and in caring for you and your family. This has come up soooooo much the past few weeks. Mamas are out there killing it. Freaking superheroes. And drowning in the judgement.

There is no perfect. It’s social media fiction. And the mamas who are rocking it most and have the least regrets (cuz we all have them) are the ones who chose to listen to their own gut and chose the people who supported them. Mama you are so much for your family. Know that your intuition, your wisdom, your feeling about what works for your family is brilliant and deserves to be heard by you and all who support you.

Sometimes when I am taking care of kiddo I’m also helping ground mama. It’s why I love when I get to adjust the whole family. As my kids would say “co-regulation.” Which really just means we help get everyone connected. But first mama listen and trust your own inner voice and feeling. It’s powerful beyond measure.

We often don’t give much thought to our emotions... even more so as they might relate to our body or chiropractic! But WHERE are our emotions? We might THINK they are in our head, but if you take a moment and tune in to your body, you’ll find that you can FEEL where they are held in the body. I use this with my kids ALL the time - I ask them: “Where do you feel it in your body?”

Likewise, in the office, its often easy to bring up how we might have sat or slept wrong. Or what we lifted that might have hurt us. Do you know unprocessed emotions are also stored in the body. That’s why so many of you have tightness around your shoulder (yup, not just you, and not just due to your chair!), or why the hips tend to hold tension too. Its also why you might find me working on your diaphragm, because we all hold on to emotions.

You’ll see this emotion wheel right by Table 1. When we ask how are you, we often get “busy”, “tired”, “good”, or “fine”. Try looking at this wheel and wondering what other emotions MIGHT be there as well. I promise you, ALL of this impacts your health and what I feel in your body. Feel free to tell me about these feelings, not just your pain. Pain is a small part of the signals going from your body to the brain. It’s the fire alarm... these emotions are the true language of the body and the more we tune in, the better we can take care of ourself!

One of my first patients yesterday morning shared this as she got off the table. I asked to share because we need to be reminded not to wait for pain or focus on just pain, but the other messages from our body.

It matters how we take care of ourselves ALL the time and how we show up in the world ALL THE TIME.

Change is UNCOMFORTABLE sometimes. AND sometimes it’s not just important, it is essential. We can uncertain when we don’t know what to expect. I will tell you it’s worthwhile leaning into uncomfortable when it calls you. Do the hard, be uncertain.

Most changes relating to health are like this. We don’t know the outcome, it’s often takes us outside our comfort zone because it’s unknown… but it’s SO IMPORTANT.

Do the thing. Be still. Be active. Call the friend. Call the chiropractor. Eat the healthy food. Try the fast. Go to bed early. Get up early for you time… do something different if it’s calling you. Change is hard but staying stuck is HARDER. It’s ok to be uncomfortable on the road to healing.

We see that every day in the office as we learn and challenge ourself through life’s ups and down. Chiropractic is not a fix, it’s a tool in your toolbox to help you keep evolving.

Ok I get it - too many poor choices CAN set you back from your health goals. But the point remains, you don’t UNDO the good ones.

Thinking that way is likely more discouraging, so might lend us toward being less inclined to do anything at all.

Instead, know that when you leave the office, you cannot undo your adjustment or wreck the work I did. Instead, that is what helps you deal with the stress load ahead of you.
