Herniated Disc: Not a Disc Disease, but a Result of Muscular Compression.

A herniated disc is a diagnosis we hear more and more often—even among young, active people. It’s usually linked to a sedentary lifestyle, heavy lifting, or sudden movements.

But I am convinced that the real cause of disc herniation is chronic tension in the deep muscles.

Muscles like the quadratus lumborum and iliopsoas can, when in spasm, create extreme pressure on the spine. Research shows that intradiscal pressure can reach up to 20 atmospheres.

To give you an idea, the pressure in your car tires is usually around 2 atmospheres. Now imagine what’s happening inside your spine when it’s under 10 times that pressure. This helps explain why disc injuries happen — especially when the body is under chronic stress and not properly cared for.

It’s important to understand that without releasing tight muscles, no treatment will be truly effective.
