Born in Kenitra, Morocco, Sidi Blue Moon developed a deep love and passion for art in general and music in particular from a young age. His diverse musical talents span across various instruments, including the guembri, percussion, ribab. Since relocating to Montreal, Canada in 2016, Sidi Blue Moon has immersed himself in the vibrant music scene, infusing his compositions with a unique blend of cu

ltural influences. His music beautifully weaves together traditional Moroccan sounds with contemporary elements, creating a captivating and innovative sonic experience. With the Guembri, Percussion, and Ribab in hand, he craft melodies that echo the spirit of ancient rhythms. As a DJ and producer, he merge these sounds with the electronic, creating a symphony that bridges the past and the future. Guided by the roots of Africa's musical heritage, Sidi Blue Moon breathes new life into traditional songs, reshaping them into an auditory journey that transcends time and space.

Carrying the Breath of the Ancestors through chants, krakeb, and the deep pulse of the guembri, this piece honors the roots of Gnawa and the sacred lineage it carries. Each rhythm becomes remembrance, each voice a bridge between worlds, where ancestral memory lives on through sound and trance.

Here’s a moment from my AP7 performance, a Funk-Gnawa journey inspired by the traditional Black Gnawa repertoire Soudani Nanayou.
The crowd felt the groove from the first beat to the last. ⚡🔥

So grateful for this vibe, this community, and the magic that happens when Gnawa rhythms meet funk.

Sharing a few photos captured by the amazing Dayna Szyndrowski during my performance at the and from my residency Artist Research and Residency.
This time on Galiano Island was transformative, a deep dive into the Gnawa universe and my own sonic world, surrounded by nature, stillness, and creative energy.

LEÑA, beautifully run by Dayna, is a space that welcomes artists into an environment of focus and reflection,a place where you can slow down, breathe, and let the work come to you.

Grateful for the land, the people, and the energy that shaped this experience.
