✨ Give your child time to respond
✨ Let them finish their thoughts
✨ Focus on what they’re saying, not how smooth it sounds

When we reduce time pressure and model a calm pace, we’re showing that their words matter, exactly as they are.

Fluency is how smoothly speech flows. Little pauses, repeats, or “um/like” moments are actually very common and totally normal! Bumpy speech doesn’t always mean there’s a problem, especially in young children. Understanding fluency helps us know what’s typical and when extra support might be helpful 💛

La fluidité est la facilité avec laquelle s'exprime la parole. Les petites pauses, les répétitions ou les moments "euh/genre" sont en fait très courants et tout à fait normaux! Un discours saccadé ne signifie pas toujours qu'il y a un problème, en particulier chez les jeunes enfants. Comprendre la fluidité nous aide à savoir ce qui est normal et quand un soutien supplémentaire peut être utile 💛

At SpeakAble Speech Therapy, we strive to provide top quality speech and language services to clients of all ages in their home, workplace, daycare and school. SpeakAble Speech Therapy is run and operated by Tamara Paull, who is a registered speech-language pathologist with Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Quebec (OOAQ), and with the College of Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Tamara completed her Masters of Science in speech-language pathology at the university of British Columbia and has been working in private practice since graduating.
