MUHC Lupus Clinic
The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Lupus Clinic is the only clinic of its kind in Quebec. It presently follows over 700 people in its lupus patient registry. It is located within the Montreal General Hospital facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to holistic patient care including accurate assessments, appropriate treatment, follow-up care and support. At the MUHC Lupus Clinic, a team of rheumatologists, internists and researchers work with a specialized multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with lupus. It includes specialists in Nephrology, Dermatology, Neurology, Hematology, Osteoporosis and Respiratory Medicine who offer a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment. It is important to note that the MUHC Lupus Clinic is led by a team of internationally recognized rheumatologist such as Dr. Christian Pineau, Dr. Sasha Bernatsky and Dr. Evelyne Vinet. The team is also composed of rheumatologist Dr. Fares Kalache and internist Dr. Luois-Pierre Grenier. It is their dedication to new and ongoing research, teaching and patient care that makes this clinic so invaluable. Although there is presently no cure for lupus, with early diagnosis and treatment, most individuals can expect to live a full and active life. The MUHC lupus clinic is presently involved in many unique research projects, which include:
• Evaluating the long-term outcome of children born to women with lupus
• Assessing the determinants of adherence to conventional therapy and use of complementary and alternative medicines in persons with lupus
• Characterizing potential cardiac and neurological complications in persons with lupus. The resources generated from this fundraising event will be used to:

• Increase awareness of lupus
• Help adolescents with lupus transition into adulthood
• Optimize patient care and outcome
• Develop patient-centered research projects

Patient care and support is the main focus of the clinic. Much attention has been given to providing a comfortable environment for patients and their significant others. Little “extras” such as artist inspired décor, reading material, and free refreshments make the waiting and/or treatment time more pleasant.
