MUHC Lupus Clinic
The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Lupus Clinic is the only clinic of its kind in Quebec. It presently follows over 700 people in its lupus patient registry. It is located within the Montreal General Hospital facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to holistic patient care including accurate assessments, appropriate treatment, follow-up care and support. At the MUHC Lupus Clinic, a team of rheumatologists, internists and researchers work with a specialized multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with lupus. It includes specialists in Nephrology, Dermatology, Neurology, Hematology, Osteoporosis and Respiratory Medicine who offer a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment. It is important to note that the MUHC Lupus Clinic is led by a team of internationally recognized rheumatologist such as Dr. Christian Pineau, Dr. Sasha Bernatsky and Dr. Evelyne Vinet. The team is also composed of rheumatologist Dr. Fares Kalache and internist Dr. Luois-Pierre Grenier. It is their dedication to new and ongoing research, teaching and patient care that makes this clinic so invaluable. Although there is presently no cure for lupus, with early diagnosis and treatment, most individuals can expect to live a full and active life. The MUHC lupus clinic is presently involved in many unique research projects, which include:
• Evaluating the long-term outcome of children born to women with lupus
• Assessing the determinants of adherence to conventional therapy and use of complementary and alternative medicines in persons with lupus
• Characterizing potential cardiac and neurological complications in persons with lupus. The resources generated from this fundraising event will be used to:

• Increase awareness of lupus
• Help adolescents with lupus transition into adulthood
• Optimize patient care and outcome
• Develop patient-centered research projects

Patient care and support is the main focus of the clinic. Much attention has been given to providing a comfortable environment for patients and their significant others. Little “extras” such as artist inspired décor, reading material, and free refreshments make the waiting and/or treatment time more pleasant.

LUPUS SINGER FOUNDATION RESEARCH

Lupus Awareness Night
Holiday Inn

6:00 pm Saturday September 28, 2019

Lupus has been part of our family for more than 20 years. Understanding its purpose is very hard to accept. However, Lupus will never destroy our family’s fighting spirit.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation in one or more parts of the body. A complex disease, it can target any tissue or organ of the body including skin, muscles, joints, blood, lungs, heart, kidneys and the brain. Men, women and children can be diagnosed with lupus but between the ages of 15 and 45, nine times more women than men are diagnosed.

Lupus is under-funded and under-recognized and is life-threatening and life-altering. While lupus is a serious condition, in most cases it can be treated and controlled. Diagnosis and treatment are improving, allowing people to live increasingly active and productive lives.

There will be a silent auction and raffles. Proceeds for the evening will go to the Montreal General Hospital Lupus Singer Foundation.

Please call Ester Nuguid Vicente at 514-630-1115 or 514-497-0995 (email at tootle.nuguid@gmail.com) and Ramon Vicente Jr, 514-823-2886 (email at ramon.vicente1888@gmail.com) for reservations.
We hope to see you there.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ester Nuguid-Vicente

Join us for this special class - a fundraiser for the Montreal General Hospital Lupus Clinic. It will be a regular class, but all proceeds will go to further research into lupus. All are welcome - please join us!

Do you remember the last time you laughed your head off? Laughter Yoga will reconnect you with your breath, your inner child, improve your emotional intelligence, and allow you to reap all of the mind and body benefits of laughter that will last with you long after you leave! It can be great exercise too!

Anybody can do Laughter Yoga, any time, any place. No jokes, sense of humour, or yoga mat are required. We guide you with easy, fun exercises that promote laughter, and due to its contagious nature, this improvised laughter quickly becomes real. Mirthful belly laughter is a wonderful thing. It may sound a bit weird, and takes a bit of coaxing for many to come and try, but once we get rolling, it feels like the most natural exercise in town! One of my priorities is to make everyone feel comfortable and have the confidence to relax and enjoy.

The act of laughing promotes all sorts of amazing changes in the body whether it's real or simulated - from decreasing nasty stress hormones that break down our immune system (adrenalin and cortisol) to increasing the happy hormones serotonin (natural pain killer) and adrenalin. Give it a try, you'll see how easy and fun it is!

Cost per session is $10.00, to be paid at Meta 1111 by cash, credit or debit.

We look forward to welcoming new Laughletes from other meet ups groups, with mirthful laughter!

Dear all,

The MGH Lupus Clinic has been caring for patients for nearly 40 years. I have been a patient at the clinic for over 30 years! I am so grateful to the team and am always looking for ways to give back. For many years now, my father and I have been fundraising for the lupus clinic with a direct mail campaign. While this has been quite successful, we realize that this is not the most effective way to raise funds for the doctors that take such good care of us. So, we’re trying something new, and we invite you to join us! This April, the MGH Lupus Clinic Team will participate in the Scotia Bank Charity Challenge (SCC).
What does this mean? The SCC is a walk, run, or roll that caters to charities like ours. Participants join the team, and through an easy-to-use website, register, and raise funds for the MGH Lupus Clinic. All funds raised go directly to the Singer Family Fund for Lupus Research at the MGH. And to make things even sweeter, the MGH Foundation matches ever dollar we raise!

Dr. Vinet and I are heading up our team. The event will take place on Saturday April 21 (and for those of you that are ambitious, April 22!), and we think it would be really fun to all meet and walk together. Races include 21k, 10k, or 5k run, or a 5k walk (that’s a bit easier!), 5k stroll, kids run. Wheelchairs are welcome. To register, go to www.21kdemontreal.ca

Follow the instructions in this guide and you’ll be registered in no time! goo.gl/eaibSQ
