'"You have autism." Three words that can change your life and your family’s forever. Those were the words that changed my life at three years old when I was officially diagnosed with autism.

As a child, I didn’t think much about it. Still, my diagnosis profoundly shaped the rest of my childhood. I participated in over 50 autism studies at local hospitals to examine my brain and motor skills, completed more than 450 hours of occupational therapy to improve my speech and motor abilities, and spent most of my 12 years in the school system in special education classes.

Little me didn’t dwell on it back then. But as I grew older and the kids around me grew up, I began to feel different—and strange. I was ashamed of my autism, to the point where I wished it would go away. But as a line in my favorite poem says: "There’s beauty in your brokenness."

As I kept growing, I realized that, yes, I may be different, but being different makes me unique—it makes me beautiful. I decided to take my diagnosis and use it for good. Today, I’m an activist and a proud supporter of autism awareness in my community. I’m writing my own book and working with my mom, who serves on the school’s special education committee, to create more accessible and inclusive classrooms for students on the spectrum.

Those three words, "You have autism," may have felt insignificant back then, but today, they mean hope, strength, and the courage to support others like me. They remind me that autism is not just a challenge—it can be beautiful."'
