Running with the World Radiotherapy Day Spotlight theme...

🔥 HARD TRUTH: standard skin toxicity scoring was never built for everyone.
This JMIRS commentary calls out how patients with darker skin tones get left behind in assessment tools. That’s not innovation, that’s inequality. As radiology advances with AI and innovation, let’s ensure fairness and representation are part of the future we build. Every skin tone. Every patient. Every time.

In line with World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, we’re reminded that healing goes beyond tumours and treatment plans. 💔 Cancer changes more than the body. It reshapes identity, body image, intimacy, relationships. 💬 Yet too often, conversations about sexual health in radiation therapy never happen.

This JMIRS pilot study challenges that silence..."Relationships, body image, and intimacy: A pilot to increase sexual health conversations between radiation therapists and cancer patients in Ontario".

In celebration of World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, we're spotlighting the importance of cultural equity in radiation therapy. Explore JMIRS’s insightful article “Understanding Indigenous Peoples’ Experiences to Inform Recommendations for Improving Cultural Safety and Care in Radiation Therapy Centres in Alberta, Canada”, which delves into how intersecting systemic barriers affect Indigenous cancer care, and what steps we can take to change that. Let’s drive innovation not just in technology, but in inclusive, compassionate care that truly breaks barriers!

This Sunday is World Radiotherapy Awareness Day! 🌍✨

Did you know that World Radiotherapy Awareness Day is celebrated on September 7 because on this day in 1953, the very first patient was treated with a linear accelerator? That innovation changed cancer treatment forever. 💡

Today, radiotherapy (or radiation therapy) continues to make a difference...helping cure cancers, improve quality of life, and extend survival for patients around the world.

To celebrate, JMIRS will be sharing articles and stories ALL WEEK that showcase the importance and impact of radiotherapy. 💙📖

The brand-new September issue of the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences will also feature powerful articles on the evolution and future of radiotherapy. So share, repost and let’s recognize the incredible work of medical radiation professionals who bring this essential care to life. 💪🎗️
