You are seen πŸ’“ Grief is a difficult and humbling process to navigate and I am finding myself trying to figure out the right things to say and do. Love is always the key and sometimes sitting and bearing witness to someone is the best things to do.

This is so important! I think that hospital staff can be possessed with the idea that if breastfeeding isn't going perfectly the baby NEEDS an immediate bottle feed. The implications of going straight to bottle are many and cup feeding is an important first step especially given that it helps the tongue thrust out as it does in breastfeeding.

Here is a nicely made video by the author of "Birthing From Within" that goes over the ins and outs of epidurals during labour. I have often wondered throughout my doula certification how I would support a person receiving an epidural and I love that the video nods to the time following a successful epidural.

Did you get an epidural for your labour(s)? Comment below to share if you feel called!

New parenthood β€” during which ordinary people find themselves abruptly responsible for a brand-new and sometimes famished, inconsolable being β€” is famously harrowing.

It’s good to have supportive family and friends during this time. However, a Postpartum Doula will be the best tool in your toolbox!

Babies don't come with a manual but postpartum doulas are pretty close.

They can help navigate through which nail clippers you need and how to use them, help you get the best sleep possible, support with body feeding and so much more.

Postpartum Doulas rock!

What a night! There is no better feeling than being there for someone who truly needs it. Mom and baby are safe and sound and Doula Maggie is relaxing while they rest. I am so fortunate to be a part of this family's story and I cannot wait to continue in this intense and beautiful practice. πŸ’“

Did you know that you can hand express breastmilk?

I always strongly disliked pumping and found hand expression and breast massage helped me immensely with the times I was away from baby or when I wanted to increase my supply.

There are tons of postpartum women/people who are discouraged from breastfeeding because of the learning curve and are then encouraged to substitute with formula which further effects their milk supply. This method can give them knowledge and power to move forward in their breastfeeding journey despite any challenges.

This video is from a Stanford professor and is very informative.

Be well ✨
