Breaking down barriers together! ๐ŸŒŸ

At Pathways to Recovery our mission is to bridge the existing gaps in mental health and addiction services, ensuring a continuum of care that leaves no one behind. For far too long, mental health and substance use issues have endured stigmatization and secrecy. At best, these challenges have been under-supported, and at worst, theyโ€™ve been outright ignored.

Our dedication lies in dismantling these barriers, destigmatizing them, and bringing these issues into the open. Together, we can break down the longstanding barriers that have hindered progress and build a future where everyone receives the care and understanding they deserve.

Yesterday, the Honourable Mona Fortier, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Vanier, o behalf of the Honorable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, joined us to announced over $1.9 million in funding for our Safer Supply Ottawa Program through Health Canada's Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP). This funding extension allows us to empower our valued partner organizations, including Ottawa Public Health, Ottawa Inner City Health, Recovery Care, Somerset West CHC, Sandy Hill CHC, Options Bytown, and Respect RX Pharmacy, to provide comprehensive wrap-around services, offer a regulated alternative to the toxic drug supply, and conduct vital research that will deepen our understanding of the opioid crisis and guides future practices.

Findings from our external research team at the University of Ottawa indicate that the Safer Supply Ottawa project has achieved a consistent reduction of over 80% in overdoses among patients.ย

We are grateful to Health Canada for their support and to MP Carolyn Bennett , MP Mona Fortier, and MPP Lucille Collard for championing this cause. We also extend our gratitude to our dedicated partner organizations, whose commitment and collaboration have been instrumental in the success of the Safer Supply Ottawa Program. This funding extension reaffirms our shared commitment to evidence-based strategies and collaborative efforts as we continue to make positive strides toward a safer and healthier community in Ottawa.

The intersection between the COVID-19 pandemic and the overdose crisis has left a tremendous burden on harm reduction staff across the country. A comprehensive healthcare system with support for our care workers is imperative.

Ottawa, September 08,2022 -- Healthcare professionals, social workers and counsellors working in the substance use field are experiencing higher levels of burnout. Antiviral medicines can cure more than 95% of persons with hepatitis C infection, but access to testing and treatment is critical.

As part of our commitment to eliminating infectious diseases, such as hepatitis C, Pathways generates funds to support and scale Mobile Health Clinics that are uniquely equipped to bring care into underserved and rural communities. We are proud to collaborate with Recovery Care in the creation of two Ottawa and Cornwall based Mobile Units.
