Try this move. Start on your hands and knees, and make sure to breathe while you exercise.

Level one: lift one arm at a time in front while you breathe out; hold; alternate.
Level 2: Lift one leg to the back as you breathe out; hold; alternate.
Level 3: Lift one arm and opposite leg while you breathe out; hold; alternate.
Level 4: lift both arms and legs at the same time. Just kidding!

Sometimes we get things right the first time. Most of the time we don't. Keep working at it. You may not get it perfect, but at least keep trying until you are proud of yourself.

🐻 Try the bear walk. Looks easy? It's not as easy as you think.

🐻‍❄️ Get into four point kneeling with your back in a neutral position (no rounding or arching). Then lift your knees off the floor only an inch or 2. BREATHE! Either see how long you can hold this position, or crawl around keeping your hips low (this is not a downward 🐶). Hard, right?

Challenge your kids to do the same so they can build core and shoulder strength and stability.

🏃🏽‍♀️Work on your agility and coordination by trying hopscotch. Make your own hopscotch course as long as you want using chalk on your driveway, sidewalk, or at the park. The longer it is, the more you also work on endurance.

🏅Challenge yourself to moving in different directions (ie: jump forward, sideways, and backwards). Also very how you move (ie: only with the right leg, only with the left leg, skipping over certain squares, etc.). You could also see how many times in a row you an go before taking a break.

What the...? If you see this bulge on your child's belly when s/he is moving around, take note! The child likely has a weak core.

But fear not! That little belly can be strengthened.

Check out my Core Strength for Kids course on my website. Learn about how to help your child get stronger in fun ways. Courses aren't your jam? Get your child assessed in Physio.

🧑‍🍼Tummy time is CRITICAL for normal development. This is exercise for babies, and if you haven’t been reading my posts until now, you need to know that I am a VERY BIG advocate for exercise and health.

👶 Babies continue to develop their senses while in tummy time, and learn how to use their muscles against gravity. Visual development and proprioception (your body’s perception or awareness of the position and movement of the body) and vestibular integration (your body’s sense of movement and balance) are critical to good overall development in the long run. They also

😭 “But my baby hates it!” Tough. (just kidding...kinda). Of course s/he does. That’s because it’s hard work! If you hadn’t gone to the gym or done exercise in months, you would find the first workout daunting. And maybe the second, and third. But eventually it gets easier and you feel better for it. Your baby is very weak when born; this is because s/he was cozily squeezed into a very tight space and wasn’t provided the opportunity to work too hard yet. BUT now is the time.

🤩 Safe tummy time: You can start from day one if your baby doesn't have medical issues. If they do, speak with the baby’s doctor to make sure you know when it is safe to start a regular regime of tummy time. The sooner the better. And a little crying is ok. By the time your baby is 3 months old, s/he should be able to accumulate AT LEAST 60 minutes of tummy time per day during wakeful hours. By the time s/he is 6 months old, it should be up to AT LEAST 90 minutes per day.
