NONVERBAL DOES NOT MEAN NO POTENTIAL
If your child is nonverbal… please don’t accept the narrative that “this is it.”
👉 Nonverbal does NOT mean incapable.
Many children are not speaking because:
👉 the pathway is blocked…
not because it doesn’t exist.
Speech requires:
• motor planning
• auditory processing
• nervous system regulation
• cognitive readiness
If even ONE of these is off…
👉 speech can stall.
Here’s the science:
🧠 Apraxia affects motor planning for speech
(Strand et al., 2013)
🧠 Auditory-motor integration is critical for verbal output
(Hickok & Poeppel, 2007)
🧠 Neural plasticity allows new pathways to form with the right input
(Merzenich, 2013)
So no — your child is not “unable.”
👉 Their system is unsupported.
And when supported correctly…
👉 communication begins to emerge.
You don’t need labels.
You need a roadmap.
