Things change, like how to bottle feed. Here are some tips:

☑️ Feed with baby in an upright position.
☑️ Elicit the rooting reflex by touching the bottle n-pple to his lower lip (or upper).
☑️ Then WAIT for the big mouth. This is an invitation to let something into their mouth.
☑️ Try not to give any flow right away, especially if baby is also breastfeeding.
☑️ Provide feeding bursts and feeding pauses. These both happen naturally when breastfeeding. For example, give the baby maybe 10-12 swallows, this is a FEEDING BURST. In order to provide a FEEDING PAUSE, lower the bottom of the bottle (yet don't take it out as that is distressing).
⚠️ WAIT for baby to realize there is no flow and stops sucking, THEN PAUSE & WAIT for him to start sucking again... This is your cue that he is ready to start feeding again. So provide flow then.

This is the basic pattern. Also pause if:
📌 Baby is dribbling some milk
📌 Baby is making any extra breathing sounds
📌 Baby is looking uncomfortable

The fact is, many of my clients rely on bottles for some feeding, so I created a handy tip sheet to offer additional tips.

And this increased secretion of oxytocin supports bonding between the father and their newborn. So Dads, be ready to take that shirt off and place your baby directly on your bare chest! It’s good for you both!
