Hello!

My name is John and I am one of the partners at Just Like Family Home Care / Ottawa. Allow me to tell you a bit about myself. Highly Educated and Experienced in Health Care

I have a degree in Social Work and Social Administration and worked as a Social Worker and Counselor at a District General Hospital in Uganda for 10 years before moving to Canada in 2003. In Ottawa, I worked at the Ottawa Hospital – Civic campus, as a Lab Technician after completing my Lab Technician Diploma at Centennial College in Toronto. While working Part time as a Lab Tech, I subsequently started my Practical Nursing Diploma at Algonquin College. I became an RPN in 2007 and started my career working directly with seniors in Long Term Care (LTC), Retirement Homes as well as in Home Care. The largest portion of my nursing career has been spent working in Home Care. Most recently I have been working as a Clinical Community Supervisor with Paramed Home Health. Previous to that I worked with Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SE Health) which was contracted by the Champlain LHIN (formerly CCAC) to provide home care and nursing services to residents of Retirement Homes as well as those still living in their own homes. It was during this time working as a Personal Support Services Supervisor that I was able to resume studying and received a certificate in Health Care Management from Athabasca University. Why I started a Home Care business

During my time working in LTC and retirement homes, I experienced firsthand the deficiencies in our public health care system. Although Canada is truly fortunate to have universal health care services, it is never enough, and there are always gaps with many people being left without the care they need. Some people simply don’t qualify or there is a lengthy wait to obtain services. I also recognized that there is a need for teams of people working together that truly care about the wellbeing of their clients. In other words, care is better provided by those looking for more than “just a job to earn a living”. We believe in giving back to the community and want to provide your loved ones with the care they deserve and that you expect! At Just Like Family Home Care, we have assembled a team that is passionate and dedicated to providing the best care possible to our communities. My team and I wish to provide Home Care services the way it SHOULD be done, and that’s why our Mission, Vison and Values here in Ottawa are based on the phrase . Together with your support I can assure you that Your Loved Ones will always get the care they deserve. The Personal Side

On a more personal note, in my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, basketball and volleyball. I enjoy WATCHING hockey (unfortunately, I am too old to learn to skate ) and love LOOKING at the beauty of the snow. I feel very fortunate to be living in Canada and am trying my best to enjoy the winters.
