How much time, energy, and money are you spending on others? Take a minute to really think about it. When I contemplated doing my first yoga teacher training (almost 20 years ago), I was racked with guilt. It would mean precious weekend time away from family (I was just about to return to a demanding leadership job after parental leave), and a few thousand dollars less for a holiday, kids' activities, or gifts.... But then I did some math... hockey equipment, gymnastics fees, gas, hotel and meals for tournaments and competition travel, not to mention all the related parental volunteer duties. Don't get me wrong - I love my kids and got so much out of watching them grow, make friends, learn new skills, and have a blast. The issue was that I wasn't allowing myself the same opportunities. Realizing that I was potentially depriving myself of an opportunity for growth, learning more about something I loved, and creating meaningful connections, I (mostly) overcame my guilt and committed to the training. It was one of the best decisions of my adult life! You may not aspire to yoga teacher training, but I encourage you to think about what YOU need and deserve. If it happens to be a few days away from all the people and responsibilities that take up your energy, sign up for this year's Kāla Connections Weekend Retreat. I have room for just two more people, but for logistical reasons, I have to close registration this weekend. I'd love for you to set aside any guilt you may have, and let me, my team, and take care of you!
