Trouble Sleeping?!

While sleeping on your side, the pillow should be thick enough so as to not scrunch the shoulder into the neck.
If a pillow is too thin it can cause/aggravate pain and inflammation in the shoulder, potentially causing other problems.
Cuddling a pillow in front of your body, with your arm draped over it, may permit less neck and shoulder discomfort.

If you sleep on your back, consider avoiding too high of a pillow under the neck. The increased height could push the neck forward and create muscular tightness.

McCooey Chiropractic can provide suggestions for mattress and pillow selection, and proper positioning for a more comfortable sleep.

Feeling more comfortable slouching? Do you have sore & tired muscles? Chiropractic can help relieve some of your discomfort.

Do you and your family wear a backpack correctly?
We tend to over pack with lunches, laptops, textbooks and clothing.

These are important questions to ask:
Is the backpack reasonably proportional to the size of the person?
Does the bottom of the bag sit at waist level?
Does the bag weigh more than 10% of the person’s weight?
Are both shoulder straps being worn?
Can the person walk normally with the backpack on, or are they slouched over/breathing heavily?

Spring and Summer Gardening Tips:

Plant and rake without the ache! Gardening is a great way for you to stay active and have fun in the
sun. But many Canadians sustain injuries that can be easily prevented with a little know-how.

Use the right moves to lighten the load on your back.
Kneel, don’t bend, to plant.
Change your body position often.
Take frequent breaks.
Alternate between light and heavy chores. Drink lots of water.
Most importantly, loosen-up before you start out.

Before you begin any physical activity, warming up is the first key step to prevent an injury. Take a walk, even on the spot.
Ten to 15 minutes should do it. Don’t forget to lift your knees and gently swing your arms.
