Researchers believe that the role of Microplastics (plastic fragments < 5 mm) can negatively affect microcirculation or negatively affect hormone function as they have been associated with an increased risk of s***m-factor infertility

PSA if you don’t have access to power ⚡️ at home and you need to sterilize baby’s bottles:
-Sterilizing bottles is an added step recommended for babies under 3 months of age as their immune system is still developing
-CDC has the following procedure recommended to sanitize baby bottles 🍼 if you don’t have access to boiling water or bottle steamers:
1. Prepare a bleach solution of 2 teaspoons of unscented bleach per gallon (16 cups) of water in a clean wash basin.
2. Put all items completely underwater. Make sure the solution touches all parts and there are no air bubbles in the bottles.
3. Squeeze solution through ni**le holes and soak items in solution for at least 2 minutes.
4. Remove with clean hands or tongs. Do not rinse because germs could get back onto the sanitized items. Any remaining bleach will break down quickly as it dries and will not hurt your baby. This process is similar to what is done to sanitize dishes in restaurants.
5. After sanitizing, place items on a clean, unused dish towel or paper towel in an area protected from dirt and dust. Allow to air-dry thoroughly before storing. Do not use a dish towel to rub or pat items dry because doing so may transfer germs to the items.

More research on how the microbiome in the urogentical tract and in seminal fluid can impact s***m health parameters was recently published in the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology 📚

Evaluating for infections and dysbiosis of the urogenital tract (and discovering its cause) are an essential part of supporting healthy fertility!

A newly published paper in The Lancet continues to recommend consideration of thyroid hormone therapy for patients with recurrent miscarriages if they:

(a) test positive for thyroid antibodies
(b) have a TSH above 2.5 mU/L

Have you had these levels checked? I often send patients with a history of recurrent miscarriages for these additional tests since they haven’t previously been considered or even mentioned to them in many cases!

Reason why I love working in Reproductive & Fertility Care #429:
There is constantly new research being published, over 130 new abstracts and various new research papers reviewed in this last week alone.
For years I have been in awe of how much new data and research is published annually, well over 5000+ new papers per year.
In order to provide optimal care for our Patients it has been my commitment for years to sit down once a week and go through all of these abstracts and read relevant research papers. It can take hours every week to do this!
At least 40/52 weeks a year there is mind-blowing new research that makes me think “why is no one talking about this?!” Which is why I started years ago sharing research updates in our newsletter on a weekly basis.

It can be done without lifestyle medicine, but it’s often an uphill obstacle course. The management of PCOS is so much easier when your body is in sync working with you towards your treatment outcomes and goals! 💕

Patients sometimes tell me that this is what their Doctor told them to their face or something like: “but you don’t have a moustache or beard” when they ask about PCOS🤦🏽‍♂️
PCOS does not look the same for Patients, there are many variations of how it can present, and the testing needs to be thorough, not just an HbA1c (which is not even part of the Rotterdam diagnostic criteria). Often it is diagnosed incidentally even though patients are having healthy regular periods, we see elevated androgens + cystic ovaries, for example. Treatment has to be specific to you and your test results because otherwise it is associated with an increased risk of: cardiovascular disease, mood disorders, diabetes and might be associated with an increased risk of miscarriage in the first trimester.
