🧘‍♀️Started my Yoga Teacher Training program this weekend! Yoga has helped me find balance in my life, especially during those times when life happens and everything feels like a lot. It’s helped me find a space to “just be”, to quiet my mind, and to slow down in this fast paced, task oriented life. It’s not always easy, in fact, sometimes it’s really really hard and it always takes me deeper in to my own healing. Along with deepening my own yoga practice, I will be discovering how to integrate yoga into trauma work in my psychotherapy practice. I’m so excited to be able to share all that yoga has brought me with others!❤️

Folks often ask me how they know if their therapy is working. Are they making progress? Are they making change in their life?

The truth is, this is sometimes not obvious right away. Change and progress is usually quite subtle, happens over time, and is unique to each individual. And, this is okay! Too much, too fast can be overwhelming to our nervous system and may result in our systems moving in to a shut down state not allowing for further progress and change. In therapy, we are looking for these subtle changes that grow our capacity for more over time.

Somatic Experiencing is a body-centered, bottom-up approach to healing symptoms of stress and trauma. The SE approach supports individuals with creating new experiences in their bodies that are different from the tension and overwhelm that may be symptoms of trauma and stress (ie. anxiety, depression, panic, sleep difficulties, etc.). Underneath these symptoms is a dysregulated nervous system that is stuck in fight, flight or freeze responses. When we begin to organize our nervous systems, letting our bodies know we are safe, we can come out of fight, flight or freeze, and begin to heal.

DDP is a therapy approach that focuses on the caregiver-child relationships and attachment. DDP focuses on creating a safe environment for children and youth to explore and heal from past experiences using attunement, playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy.

When practicing DDP, I start with meeting parents or caregivers first. We will get to know more about your child or youth, their past experiences and attachment patterns and how this is impacting them today and in relationships both with you and others. We will also learn more about you in context of your attachment patterns with your child or youth. I will support you with learning the DDP parenting approach before we bring your child or youth in to session.

To find out more connect with me via email: [email protected]

You can also learn more about the DDP approach at: www.ddpnetwork.org/about-ddp
