Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder that caring for our minds is just as important as caring for our lungs.

Living with a lung condition can bring daily challenges, and mental health support is a vital part of overall wellbeing.

We’re striving for a future where no one feels alone in their journey to breathe and to heal. ❤️

Every step counts toward stronger lungs.

Join our challenge by walking, running or moving 1.25 km—heck, even dance if you want to! It’s a small distance that makes a big impact, reminding us how vital movement is for lung health.

Challenge your friends, coworkers or family to get moving too! Together, we can take steps toward healthier lungs and healthier communities.

Are you in? Lace up and share your journey with us. 🚶‍♀️

You can’t see it. You can’t smell it. You can’t taste it.

But it could be lurking in your home… 😧

Radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in Canada, and it can be found in almost all homes. The only way to know if it’s there is to test.

If your home has high radon levels, don’t be spooked by the cost of fixing it. The Lungs Matter: Home Radon Mitigation Grant Program offers eligible families up to $1,500 toward radon mitigation.

Today, we honour the Survivors of residential schools, their families and the children who never returned home. 🧡

This day is a reminder of the painful history and lasting impacts of residential schools, and of our responsibility to listen, learn (and unlearn) and take meaningful action toward reconciliation.

Tiny rodents can carry a BIG risk!

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome is a rare but serious lung disease spread by deer, mice and other wild rodents. 🐭

People can get Hantavirus when tiny particles from rodent saliva, urine, droppings or nesting materials become airborne and are inhaled.

For example, sweeping a garage where infected mice have nested can stir up these particles and put your lungs at risk.

Awareness and caution around areas where rodents live are key to preventing Hantavirus. Stay safe and protect your lungs! 🫁

Hello, Fall! 🍂

As the season changes, here are a few simple ways to keep your lungs happy:

Breathe deeply – take a moment each day for mindful breaths (we’ve been sharing tips all month!)

Stay active – crisp fall walks are perfect for fresh-air workouts

Hydrate – cooler temps can make you forget to drink water, but it’s just as important now as any other time of year

Watch allergens – falling leaves = extra mould and pollen, so keep an eye out!

Your lungs work hard all year. Show them some seasonal TLC! 💛

We'd like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Deborah Harri as her term as a CLA board member comes to a close.

Deborah has volunteered with the CLA board of directors since 2016(!), inspired by the education and resources she found through CLA when caring for her own children. Her volunteer work with CLA has not only made us a stronger, more effective organization, it has helped ensure the same support and knowledge continues to be available to parents and others across Canada.

Deborah, your governance expertise, kindness, dedication and viewpoint from Winnipeg will be missed but never forgotten.

On behalf of all the team at CLA, thank you.
