I was asked over my DMs if I agree that savory breakfasts are the only healthy option, especially when it comes to blood sugar regulation.
And while I do think savory breakfasts are a great choice, they are absolutely not the ONLY healthy option.
I would love to share with you, what are the things we all want to be looking in a breakfast to ensure weāre on the healthy-track and enjoy both taste and energy - because isnāt that the best way to start the day? I think so š
ā”ļø Look for balance of macronutrients: ideally a good breakfast will have some fiber (fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc); healthy fats (avocado, nuts & seeds, olive oil, etc.) and some protein (greek yogurt, h**p seeds, a good quality protein powder, eggs, etc).
ā”ļø Itās best to stay away from refined options: while Iām not a fan of condemning food in any shape or form, staying away from refined breakfast options itās important. Cereals, bare bagels, muffins, and even my beloved croissants are best enjoyed at other times. These refined carbs spike blood sugars and set you on a day of energy crashers and a mood roller coaster.
ā”ļø The best breakfast is the one you actually have, enjoy and allows you to have a healthy relationship with food where youāre not fearful that youāre doing it wrong or your choice is going to harm you ā¤ļø
Some of my favorite balanced breakfasts are:
āļø Greek yogurt with berries, cashews, 1 tbsp flax seed, and some granola.
āļø Rolled oats or quinoa porridge) with mashed banana, peanut butter, and h**p seeds.
āļø Shakshuka with sourdough toast (if youāve never tried it, trust me youāre missing out).
