Ottawa has lost someone irreplaceable.
For more than two decades, Ruth Cull, known to so many as Mollypenny, filled the halls of CHEO with laughter, gentleness, and a rare kind of light. She met children and families in their hardest moments and gave them something priceless: comfort, play, and the reminder that even in the midst of uncertainty, joy could still be found.
At Spark, we have witnessed firsthand how a single person's compassion can ripple out across generations of families. Ruth's legacy is one of those ripples: immeasurable, lasting, and deeply felt in our city. We are grateful for the path she carved, showing that healthcare is about presence, kindness, and humanity.
In honour of Ruth's life and the comfort she gave so many families, we chose to support the Ruth Cull Endowment Fund at the CHEO Foundation. It is a small way of recognizing a life lived in extraordinary service to children and families.
Our caregivers, nurses, PSWs, and therapists work alongside CHEO every day, and through them, we see how deeply this hospital carries Ruth's spirit forward.
To support the CHEO community she loved so deeply is to keep her light alive. Our hearts are with her loved ones, the CHEO community, and with every child and parent whose days were brightened by her character. May her memory continue to inspire us all to lead with our hearts. ❤️
