Meet Michela — formerly Director of Wellness at and now Regional Director of Wellness in BC. Michela shares what she values most about working at Amica and how she continues to own her impact.
Q: How long have you been working at Amica?
A: I joined Amica in November 2020 and started my journey as the Director of Wellness at . Today, I am the Regional Director of Wellness for BC, which means I get to support and connect with multiple residences and incredible leaders and residents in Vancouver and Victoria alongside my partner RDW, Sharon Kiptoo.
Q: What initially drew you to this industry?
A: I have always been passionate about people, connection, and making a difference in someone’s day since becoming a Registered Nurse in 2018. Senior living drew me in because it combines health, heart, and home. I get to lead, problem-solve, and still be part of meaningful everyday moments with residents, their families, and team members.
Q: What are some of your roles and responsibilities?
A: In my role, no two days are ever the same. Some days I am supporting leaders and wellness teams, other days I am diving into data, quality initiatives, or risk audits, and often I am simply there to cheer people on and help them grow. At the heart of it all, our goal as RDW's is to ensure residents receive the best care and our teams feel supported and empowered.
Q: What do you love most about working at Amica?
A: The people and the residents! I love the energy and dedication of our teams, the history and stories of our residents, and the collaboration across all departments. Amica also encourages us to keep learning and growing, which makes the work exciting and inspiring.
Q: Tell us about a time you feel that you made a difference and owned your impact.
A: I am really proud of building and growing my team, and seeing people step into their potential is the best part of leadership. A great example is Brooke Ryans. She started as a Wellness Nurse, grew into the Assistant Director of Wellness role with me, and is now the Director of Wellness at Lions Gate since I have moved to the Regional role. Watching her journey and being part of that growth has been such a highlight for me. My favourite part of being a leader is supporting other leaders to be their best selves, whether that is educating nurses, mentoring future leaders, or learning right alongside them. There is nothing better than seeing someone gain confidence and succeed in a role they once thought might be out of reach
