This week I was at the Community Conversation presenting about Agriculture and Mental Health.
Although, I am a local service provider and work with many clients that are struggling with their mental health, I would love to see policy support preventative measures for our community. I addressed some of the root causes of mental health struggles and challenged the City of Ottawa to address such items like: protecting rural lands that support Agricultural operations, ensuring rural voices have equal representation at the council table on rural issues, ensuring that Farmers are seen as CEOs just like an urban based CEO would be seen, having good working relationships with local farmers and farming organizations to ensure that when crisis hits, timely and effective supports can be assessed and implemented.
As a Registered Nurse, Psychotherapist, preventative care and initiatives are just as important to me as working with you in the practice. No one wants to struggle with their mental health. By addressing common root causes systemically, the stresses on one’s mental health will decrease.
Huge thanks to our incredible guest speakers—Bonnie Schroeder, Ken Holmes, and Courtney Argue —for sharing their insights at our West Carleton community conversation!
We explored important topics like rural aging, mental health in our farming community, and innovative transportation solutions.
Grateful for the great turnout and meaningful discussion! Looking forward to better ways to support and strengthen community!
