πŸ’š It's Community Health and Wellbeing Month!

🌱 South-East Ottawa Community Health Centre is proud to partner with the African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) Wellness and Resource Centre to increase access to community-based mental health for Black children and youth.

✨Recently, we had the privilege of meeting over breakfast with Toni Jacobs, Executive Director of the ACB Wellness and Resource Centre. Together, we are building a partnership to increase access to integrated, community-based mental health supports for Black children and youth.

🀝 We’re standing together with Black and other racialized communities to address barriers and ensure everyone has access to equitable health and community care. Partnerships like this one are key to advancing equity, resilience, and well-being across our communities.

Happy National Breastfeeding Week: October 1-7

This week, we join communities across Canada in celebrating the powerful bond of breastfeeding. This year's theme, "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems" reminds us of the importance of creating environments that empower families to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding provides countless benefits for babies, parents and the planet. It strengthens the bond between parent and child, supports optimal health and is a sustainable choice that reduces environmental impact.

A huge thank you to our amazing board-certified Lactation Consultant, Sue Theriault Valin, for her compassion and dedication in supporting families through every step of their feeding journey.

For breastfeeding support, please call 613-737-5115 ext 2327 or email breastfeedinghelp@seochc.on.ca

Call for Art Submissions: The UAKN is looking for art by five (5) Indigenous Youth for the upcoming UAKN book!

In partnership with the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC), the Urban Aboriginal Knowledge Network (UAKN), is in the process of writing a final book based on the last 10 years of urban Indigenous community-driven research across Canada.

A central theme of the book, and as something to focus on and consider in the sharing of your visual artwork, is the experience for Indigenous people of the β€˜city as home’. If selected, your artwork will be chosen for different areas of the book, including the front and back covers, as well as at the beginning of each chapter.

We are seeking artwork that reflects and celebrates the experiences, knowledges, and stories of Indigenous Peoples in urban context with the theme of β€œCity as Home”.

Interested Indigenous Youth artists are asked to submit their Expression of Interest with examples of your work and an Artist’s Statement by end of day October 30th, 2025. If you have any questions, please send all your questions to uakn@nafc.ca
