Job Summary
The Medical Office Assistant position is key to the smooth and efficient operation of South Ottawa Medical Centre. The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for maintaining patient flow and assuming other responsibilities consistent with the job classification. This role functions autonomously and collaboratively with patients, physicians.
We are looking for a team player who thrives in an energetic environment and enjoys working with a large patient population. You must be professional, detail oriented, have a great sense of humour and a passion for customer service.
Responsibilities and Duties
Maintaining patient confidentiality
Performing daily opening and closing office procedures as assigned.
Operating the clinic’s phone system by responding to incoming calls, transferring calls, taking messages, communication of general clinic information, Booking, co-coordinating and rescheduling patient appointments, etc…
Greeting and registering arriving patients in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner.
Verifying and updating patient information on computer EMR
Assigns and directs patients to examination rooms.
Prepare examination rooms, set-up and maintain medical supplies and equipment for all examinations and procedures.
Prepares patients for examination by performing basic procedures ie: taking blood pressure, weight, height, and temperature, etc… and record in electronic medical record.
Process third party payments.
Check/respond to messages in a timely manner.
Complete data entry in a timely and accurate manner, including scanning downloading/scanning reports and results received into the patient electronic medical file
Making up new patient charts.
Maintain accurate and concise documentation of patient encounters in a timely manner.
Utilize universal precautions to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Performing other related duties within the Clinic as assigned

Must be able to handle work volume fluctuations.
Strong applied knowledge in computer applications.
1-2 years of experience in a medical setting is an asset.
Knowledge of clinical procedures an asset.
Knowledge of EMRs is an asset.
Community college diploma or certificate in Administration/Medical Secretarial or equivalent working experience.

Education:
Graduate of a Medical Office Assistant program or equivalent.
