Dont ever let anyone tell you your milk is not good enough for your baby, it’s simply not true

"Babies don't need to be taught how to sleep.

Babies don't need to be put on a feeding schedule.

Babies don't need to be separated from us to learn how to be independent.

Babies are born knowing exactly what they need. They need comfort, connection, and contact. They need us.

And we're born into parenthood, with the instinct to hold our babies close. To respond to them. To keep them safe. To comfort them.

But our culture tells us we're wrong. Society tells us to put them on a schedule, to leave them to cry it out, to put them to sleep in a separate room, to wean them at a random arbitrary age...to start pushing them away from us as early as possible...or we're failing as parents.

This is what I call white noise. And the more we listen to ut, the more power we give it, the louder it becomes. I'm all about helping you silence the white noise of society so that the whisper of your intuition becomes a loud roar.

Because the truth is, you know exactly what your baby needs - YOU. There is no gadget that can replace the warmth and softness and safety of a parent.

I’m absolutely passionate about the early years because they provide the foundation for all that is to come. A baby's brain is designed to interact with the environment in the first 1000 days of life to determine what sort of brain will be needed for the rest of life. The experiences of the first 1000 days are as significant as your baby's genes. They literally wire your baby's brain.

So, if you're a new parent, Day 3’s interviews at the Raised Good Summit are a must-watch - we'll be talking all things babyhood from infant and toddler sleep to skin-to-skin contact, breastfeeding, and birth. And when I say babyhood I'm referring to at least the first 3 years...because babyhood lasts 3 years from a neurological perspective."

This is impressive!!

A photo showing droplets of breast milk fending off armies of harmful bacteria in Petri dishes is going viral on Facebook.⁣

The photo, posted by a biology student in England, features nine Petri dishes completely colonized with the bacteria M. Luteus, except in the center, where tiny puddles of breast milk have created what looks like “moats” of protection around themselves.⁣

The student, Vicky Green, said she had similar results with Petri dishes full of e.Coli and the dreaded anti-biotic resistant “super bug” MRSA.⁣

“The white spots in the middle are discs soaked in two samples of breastmilk,” Green wrote in the caption of her post. “See the clear bit around the discs ― that’s where the proteins in the milk have inhibited the bacteria!”⁣

An article from YourPediatrician.com explains how this is possible:⁣

“About 80 percent of the cells in breast milk are macrophages, cells that kill bacteria, fungi and viruses. Breast-fed babies are protected, in varying degrees, from a number of illnesses, including pneumonia, botulism, bronchitis, staphylococcal infections, influenza, ear infections, and German measles. Furthermore, mothers produce antibodies to whatever disease is present in their environment, making their milk custom-designed to fight the diseases their babies are exposed to as well.”⁣

What’s even more impressive is that the samples of milk in the photos came from the mother of a 15-month-old and a 3-year-old, providing further evidence that breast milk continues to protect against illness long beyond infancy.

Were you told your baby was losing weight and to supplement with formula?

‼️Disclaimer: this post is in regards to supplementation when mothers HAVE breastmilk, have full term babies, are breastfeeding and want to continue breastfeeding but are told to supplement with formula❗️There is certainly a time when formula is needed. I strongly recommend you meet with an IBCLC, to see if it’s actually necessary, especially when moms are able to pump several ounces. I know many moms choose to use formula, and this post is not for them- it’s for moms who want to breastfeed, have milk, but their babies are losing weight 🙃

🔹Now when doctors suggest formula to help with baby’s weight gain, I want you to know that formula is not greater in calories than breastmilk. The calorie composition is constantly changing in breastmilk based off baby’s growing needs. Formula, however, since it’s made in a factory, will always have the same calories per ounce- it’s designed to mimic Breastmilk composition (incl calories).

‼️So if mom has a good milk supply, but baby is losing weight or is falling off his “growth chart”, why do we jump to formula?

🔺Shouldn’t doctors suggest supplementing with MOM’s breastmilk since she has the milk and the calories are higher per ounce than formula? Yes, formula has its place, like when mom doesn’t have enough milk, but if mom has adequate supply, then we need to see WHY baby is losing weight; it is NOT because of mom’s milk.

🔹There is an underlying reason why baby is losing weight. Or maybe there is no underlying issue and baby is growing perfectly fine just on a lower percentile and that is totally fine too. Humans come in all shapes and sizes

🔶I so often see formula recommended after mom has been breastfeeding for several months and baby isn’t at a higher percentile. Why would formula be the answer? It’s not higher in calories than Breastmilk...

🔷So get breastfeeding help from an IBCLC lactation consultant 🙋‍♀️before jumping to formula. If your supply is actually low, perhaps formula is necessary. Either way see a lactation consultant who can assess the WHY of your situation.

✔️Don’t doubt your breastmilk!

Ignoring a baby for 3-5+ days in intervals of 5-15mins because a popular sleep consultant said so, does not benefit this baby in any way.

In fact, it tells this vulnerable baby that it cannot rely on its caregiver when they cry (communicate).

Sleep training deprives a baby from connection and closeness, the two things that are necessary for a baby to grow and *thrive*.

I give it another 30 years until we’ve realized how sad it used to be to leave our babies to cry in intervals…

There is NO “best” age to sleep train.

Sleep is a BIOLOGICAL function,
It’s something that cannot be taught.
